I see reviews (at least user reviews, which I trust a great deal more than the usual outlets) are pretty harsh, which doesn't surprise me the least bit. No idea what even SJW means, but I knew these games would be crap because it's just a continuation of the moneygrab operation off of the great name of Baldur's Gate that the Embuggered Edition started. Would not play these games if I got them for free. I own the originals, and those are still superior to whatever these beamdogs twunts are churning out to boost their bank accounts.

Let Minsc shove a rusty mace up their backdoors, and be jolly about it. We know what he thinks about bad guys :)

Roin: Besides it simply doesn't fit the lore

ydobemos: Please point me to the specific lore in question, and provide quotations, and explain how the existence of LGBT characters doesn't fit it. And please read the previous posts in this thread on the subject first, because I and others have already addressed this point.
Lore or not, If somebody adds 4 new playable characters in DLC, It is at least a little strange when one of them is gay and one of them is bisexual. Half of new playable NPC are sexual minorities.
What is the percentage of sexual minorities in real world? I think the estimations are somehing between 2% and 5%.
If they had added 20 new pleyable characters, I wouldn think one ore two LGBT among them is something strange.

Totenglocke: I'm curious what you found wrong with Last of Us: Left Behind?
avatar
Punkoinyc: In my opinion the whole DLC felt pointless and like it only existed to show how progressive the developers were. I didn't find running around a mall with Ellie and her friend interesting in the slightest and them kissing right before the zombies came was just over the top. If Ellie had just said she lost her girlfriend in the main game, and there not been a DLC, it would've been far less obnoxious. I'm just glad I got the PS4 version of the game because the DLC was free. I would've been PISSED if I spent money on it.
The DLC was split into two parts (each chapter alternated back and forth) with one being about her taking care of Joel in the winter that was mostly skipped over in the main game and the other being about her remembering the last time she was in a mall where she also lost the only person she truly cared about (before Joel). You're really reaching to find something to hate here because it made sense from a story telling perspective.

This sums up how I feel about what they've done to the original characters quite nicely.
Good article.

Except there's an important group you're forgetting to count: all the playable characters in the original editions (including the protagonist). None of them is openly LGBT. The new characters aren't disproportionate, they merely go some way towards redressing the balance.

The parts in the Joel timeline were reasonably fun despite being redundant. The whole prequel segment with Riley was shit though. Neither was really worth money. That's all I'm gonna say about it.

I'm glad this game flopped. It's a cheap nostalgia bait and a cashgrab. Developers probably thought that adding sick people (with sexual deviations) would give them free advertisement and good coverage in leftist magazines. Great they were wrong, maybe that will also teach other developers to not add LGBT content to games.

Witcher 3 - positively portrays both homosexual and transgender characters
Witcher 2 - positively portrays homosexual characters
Witcher - positively portrays both homosexual and transgender characters
Pillars of Eternity - positively portrays homosexual characters
...
Oh cool, I don't actually have to try, Wikipedia already has a solid list and most of those games are extremely well rated. It's all good, there are loads of quality games with LGBT content.
Oh my, we SJ-battlemaidens and knights are clearly made of sturdier stuff than the rest, since we can take this content in our stride! ;-)

(not that I categorize myself as one)

And on tops, we are known to enjoy games that would have been developed, well, primarily for you, really. For example, my favoured immersion is to roll a female CHAR, but I do not go hostile on principle on games that only have a male protagonist.

I had actually low expectations on SoD because I love BG and did not want to be cruelly disappointed. I am actually really enjoying it thus far.

It would be worth it just for Minsc alone, but this title had me at first narration - it's the original guy!

My absolute favourite narrative idea in this game is introducing that evil mage. I love the voice acting, the character. Brilliant idea and great fan service.

If someone cannot handle a line of dialogue in 25+ hours, I think they are being silly. To suggest to others to forego the gaming joy meanwhile is quite mean. IMO.

Reading godawful dialog. I watched the opening of a Let's Play for it and my soul died hearing how bad the writing was. The voice actors probably died a little inside being forced to read that middle school level crap as well.

Each to their own.

To me, SoD extends the gaming joy of BG series, and I am really thankful they published this. The sentiment of nostalgia is pretty big, of course - but if I enjoy it, I'll take it.

I have not found dialogue particularly sub-par compared with other PRG titles, but that's my view.

Who was gay in pillars of eternity?

IIRC there's a bisexual companion and a bunch of references to homosexual characters. I don't remember anything more significant than that.

Thanks for linking that Wikipedia list. When I first read about this 'controversy' my first thought went to Ultima VI and having the option to engage in a same-sex romp with a prostitute...in the early 90's. I was maybe 10 when I played that game and just remember thinking "WOW I can do whatever the hell I want in this game, awesome!"

Last time I checked being exposed to things like that didn't cause me to 'catch the ghey' or become a sexual deviant.

Yeah that's definitely what it's about. Nice strawman.

The reason why this is wrong is because it's hate for for people who disagree with your political opinion. Amber Scott showed a lot of hate in her comments on the subject. We should never support hate in video games to score politics points.
