In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find their new roles within the war-torn realm... even as discord begins to rumble among the ranks of Kyros’ most powerful Archons.
Players will experience the new world order under Overlord in a reactive role-playing game (RPG), interacting with the populace as a powerful Fatebinder in the Overlord’s forces -- roaming the lands to inspire loyalty or fear as they bring control to the last holdouts of the Tiers.
Branching, unique stories in an original setting: The battle between good and evil has already taken place, and evil stands victorious
Choices matter – make world-altering decisions with far-reaching consequence: As a Fatebinder in the Overlord’s army you wield a vast amount of power in the occupied lands of the Tiers. Will you use that to inspire stability and loyalty, will you be feared, or will you seek your own power?
Challenging, classic RPG combat: Tactical real-time-with-pause combat with new party-driven mechanics and modern presentation
A rich original setting: Not just another “hero’s journey” -- Tyranny turns the archetypal RPG story on its head and allows players to explore a new take on good and evil

I love this game and recommend it to all. I have never had to think about my conversation choices in a game as much as i did here. They also regularly made me laugh. Who knew being evil was so funny. no wonder villains laugh all the time. Great Characters great player led story.
This is nu-rpg done right. I hated everything about PoE, and going in with such a hyped up disappointment in mind... well, luckily, I love everything about Tyranny! Bolstered by this I almost feel brave enough to try out Torment; Tides of Numenera. Almost.
Minor petpeeves:
I don't have a problem with the "shit" words in the dialogue, but the "fuck" words make it seem like this was written by some goober in the current year. Sad!
The overworld map could be a bit more colorful, the game world isn't actually "bleak". I find it colorful and the overworld map reflects poorly on this. Ugly design for the sake of "le main character is a villain"? Bad!
More trashmobs because it is fun to kill things, but do away with the crap items and just replace it with money for the sake of simplicity. Broken armors are fine with the lore but 300 magic slippers, no. Just No. Enemy and overall item variet is fine, tho.
This game is worth your time, and it is one of those few games were you wish it was twice as long and that other half was just filler because the filler is so much fun. Then again a new game in a different direction of actions makes "up for that", so to speak. Great game. I love it.
If they ever come out with an optimized version of this game I'd bump it up to 4 stars.
So, let me just say that I really enjoyed my time with Tyranny but I wanted to get the bad out of the way first.
This game is really poorly optimized. Considering it's meant to be reminiscent of RPGs released over tne years ago, I shouldn't be encountering so much lag when playing it on a modern PC. There were a handful of times when the lag was so bad I actually wondered whether or not I was going to be able to beat the game. The game doesn't have too many bugs but there were a couple that I got caught in which stood out. Namely characters ocasionally getting stuck in certain animations, and the game sometimes getting stuck on loading screens. Also, not sure if it's a problem with the game or GOG but none of the achievements I got after a certain point in the game showed up, despite me having beaten the game and unlocked all the spires.
Apart from the technical performance gameplay is very much reminiscent of isometric RPGs, and so requires a lot of micro-managing. It's not that bad if you're playing on a normal difficulty setting, but I'm not a huge fan of that type of gameplay in general. And although I was enjoying the Bastard's Wound DLC, for some reason, the combat in there seemed leaps and bounds more difficult for me than the rest of the game.
So, onto the good.
I did really enjoy my experience with the game overall. Some people feel the game isn't fleshed out enough or too short, but I really found myself getting wrapped up in the story, the world and the chracters. Although I'm not sure I'll be doing a second playthrough anytime soon, there is also quite a lot of variation in how you can approach quests and the game's overall plot. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the game on the strength of it's story and for fans of isometric RPGs, but technically this game falls very short for me, and I'm not sure I'd want to do it again until a few things are updated.
if you love Bauldurs Gate, you will love this. An interesting and unique isometric game with excellent characters, lore, and conversations and combat. I hope Obsidia keeps making games like this forever!
