BATTLETECH

This game sadly is unfinished and full of annoying bugs. After the first big update it did't really start at all, it just showed a black screen and a fps counter. And then you have to delete certain files and uninstall and reinstall and create a new callsign in game, after a lot of trial and error and reading in the forums I was able to play a bit. Now there was the next big update and I started a completly new campaign to try the new options. While the tutorial still was running the game now decided to play a video without actually showing a video, just the sound, I saw a black screen with the loading circle in the top left corner. After the video? Jup, nothing happend, as expected, the game just shows the black screen and that is it. Like after the first update. It is a pity, because I backed the game and was really looking forward to play this. Meanwhile I play other stuff, maybe they will finally release a version of this game, that only has small bugs and is actually playable without you deleting files and uninstall and reinstall... This was the first time in my life I backed the development of a game. I thought nothing could go wrong with HBS after I played the three Shadowrun games of HBS, which all run fine with me. First and last time I backed a game.

I love the Battetech franchise and finally bought this game over one year after it has been released. Although the campaign is a bit generic and flat and the missions are kind of repetitive, it is a lot of fun to run around with a few hundred tons of metal and shoot big guns. You find scrap, can start to customize the Mechs and try out different playing styles. That is the Mechwarrior experience. The biggest con about the game is the technical implementation. Quite some time has passed since the release but bugs like not executed attack animations or enemy turns taking forever are still a deal-breaker. At least the basic gameplay should work. The second technical problem is the long waiting times. I read about them in a couple of reviews and believe me: It really is that bad. Combine that with the game getting stuck forcing you to reload and you end up with a really frustrating experience. All in all I am happy I bought it when it was on sale and it was worth the money. If I had bought it for the full price I would have returned it.

I haven't played this in 6 years, and it was great to pick it up again.

I was expecting so much more from this title. The fights are horrendously slow. it's so poorly optimized. Doesn't feel like Battletech at all to me. At $10 this game is worthwhile. at nearly $40.. no way.

What a waste of money for an unfinished game. Game crashs, long load times, a completely unbalanced AI, and it is so SLOW. Now I have played mechwarrior since the start with FASA tabletop and this game falls so short it is almost laughable. Time to check if I can get a refund. If you like this style of turn-based game then you are much better off with XCOM then this load of crap!!!
