uulav: Sorry but two wrongs won't make it right. Many owners of those pictures don't care what people do with them in private use. But i am quite sure that owners of gog care that their hard work is being distributed freely over the web. They are small company so every lost sale hurts.
UULAV, be aware I wasn't telling people to pirate or trying to justify when I sometimes do it(Not to GOG games btw or new titles, as I said before.).....i'm just trying to illustrate some reasons why I think it's alright for me/others to do so in CERTAIN cases, and also show the hypocrisy SOME show when complaining about piracy.

I agree people should buy from GOG and not pirate, while understanding where SOME who pirate from GOG are coming from(not necessarily being happy about them doing it just understanding their motivations in some cases.)

Also, I know and believe some pirate not because they feel they need to but because they just like to pirate and flaunt it. Those people I dislike as much as anyone else. But those who download/pirate due to certain reasons(such as no money/etc) I don't dislike as much, and *again* I hate it when those who pirate just to flaunt it are lumped in with those who pirate because they feel a certain "need" to. It's crass generalization and just makes fools out of those that think that way, imo.

GOG was born at piracy hell country Poland to overleap such problem by DRMFREE.

SimonG: As I stated many times in piracy threads, the issue people have with piracy is psychological, not economical. They don't like that someone else gets something free that they paid for. They feel cheated and taken advantage of. And they totally miss the point. But with all the fallacies of human behavior, this is probably going to last a bit.

GameRager: I've known this for quite some time now, oddly enough.....I just never mentioned my thoughts out of fear of being called stupid/etc.......it's the old free rider "dilemma" and how people react to it, I think.
Except it's not a free rider problem, the "free riders" aren't actually spoiling anything, movies, video games, etc. are all booming. Supposedly big music took about a 8 billion dollar hit around the same time as Napster hit the scene. All other media industries have been growing right along with expected norms.

Yeah I've noticed that too. That piracy actually didn't make Game/Movie industries smaller... it make it even bigger ... That's the hard part for me to understand.

I don't think he meant that the free riders are spoiling anything, but agree with SimonG that people dislike pirates because they think 'I paid ___ and they got it for free!"

Concerning that, it is not just people who get it free that they get mad at, some people will get mad if a game they purchased goes on sale shortly after they bought it.

One more thing is noticeble. Most of the people hating pirates are actually pirates too or they used to be pirates.
Btw I have an idea for the OP. For one month you try living with let's say 500 euro. At the end of that month.Come back here and tell us how much games you buy and how much games you pirated :) I just dare you to do that.

I guess I used the wrong term....let's not split hairs shall we? ;) The issue is similar to what SimonG and I described, I think....and this is key, not what the problem is correctly termed.

In some european countries 500 euro is pretty good money...you better specify he has to spend it/live off it in a country with higher cost of living for your "point"(as such) to really hit home and make the intended impact I would think.

i am student so at the moment that is pretty much status quo for me. I work in summers, so i can save money for example buying my games if i want. And you can't say that all the people who pirate are poor people, there are also rich cheap ass punks who are used to getting everything free.

He never said all who pirate are poor people........I even said earlier as you just did that some are self entitled [ricks who download because they can. All we're saying is that SOME ARE poor...that's all...and that's possibly why they do it.

spinefarm: The awfull part is that gamers that can afford buying games hate ppl that can't afford buying games... that suck..
Where you got that from? I think you're generalising too much. I have a friend who plays pirated games.

Both sides generalize too much, I would think. That's part of the problem.
meh who cares , this is old news ,you should not bother about what others are doing , if you feel gog is loosing sales because of this , go ahead and buy more copies and make sales

GameRager: snip
Mmm your kinda wrong on this point. Let me make it clear:
A normal salary in Finland is let's say 2000 euro/month
A normal salary in Bulgaria is 250-350 euro/month

Because of all the EU shit prices are not much different at all the EU members to put it clearer(this is taken from a site called Hanken.fi)
Rent: 400-800
Food: 200
Transport: 50
Personal: 50
Total: 700-1100

Numbers in Bulgaria:
Rent: 150-250 euro
Expenses(gas/electricity/water): 100-150 euro
Food: 100-150 euro
Transport: 20 euro(if you use public bus) a lot more if you use car 1l gas is 1.30 euro
Personal: what is left from your salary
Total: 370-570

I hope this makes it clearer.
Small number of torrents. ;). Pirates will be pirates.

I told earlier I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here. I've just noticed around the web :)
