MysterD: Wait. Isn't it up to the developers and/or publisher if they decide to use CEG or not?

There are many games on Steam which don't have CEG and don't have other DRM junk attached to it - meaning, once you download the game from Steam, then...you don't really need Steam running in the background to run the said game.

StingingVelvet: Yes. Not sure what this is a reply to?
Sure. I'll explain.

You said: "Denuvo introduced and then removed in like 48 hours because of fan outrage. Why can't we do that with Steam DRM?"

Sounds like you were wishing there was out-rage to Steam's DRM, which is CEG - so a game could get their CEG-DRM pulled via Steam.

I don't think Valve forces usage, as some dev's and pub's don't put it into some of their games. Seems to be more common with Indie games and older titles.

I wish less dev's used CEG or dropped CEG later in their games, to make them more DRM-FREE.

Are you looking for games to be able to be downloaded via a browser when we sign into our Steam-account, like say GOG allows for offline installers/game-folders? I wish Steam allowed for this, but it seems like we have to get our Steam-games via their Steam-launcher.

Steam games are built to run without a traditional install process, so yes I agree they are basically DRM free when Steam is not required to launch. Many here would insist otherwise, but that is what it is. I'm not disagreeing with you at all here, and am not sure what we're discussing?

My point was no one cares about Steam DRM because they like Steam. There's no pitchforks and news articles about Steam's DRM because people love using Steam. I'm stating that as a contrast to Denuvo, and saying "bummer."
It's nice that Bethesda/ID removed Denuvo and that horrible anti cheat system i guess but it would be even better if devs didn't try to screw you over post launch which happens a bit too frequently imo.

Still good to have a reminder why i don't buy DRM'ed AAA titles anymore.

GameRager: Imo it's less because people like it and more that most just shrug their shoulders and tolerate it.
avatar
StingingVelvet: Well they actively like how Steam functions, and what it adds to games. They just don't care that DRM comes hand in hand with it.
That's what I was trying to say, essentially. :)

Yeah, I think I've got your point now: nobody complains about CEG b/c they like Steam as a service.

Though, yeah - CEG can be a pain, if you're offline. Easier to run a game w/out any DRM, especially when offline...no matter what. Won't even have to force Steam's offline mode or anything, if it isn't protected.

First off, sorry for the necro.....this post pertains to this topic, though, and I didn't want to make another thread to clutter up the forums just for this:
================================================

So who here is still interested enough in the game to get/play the new DLC expansion coming soon?

I have the season pass(came with my edition), so I get it free, and I liked some aspects of the game(story, music, etc) to play more of it, despite the flaws(needing to do certain moves for armor/ammo/health, for one).....also the trailer makes it seem appealing......so I will be playing it on launch date, which is Oct 20th or 23rd(forget which atm) for the XB1 in NA.

So, is anyone else here on GOG gonna be subjecting themselves to more "eternal agony" (i.e. the flawed bits of Doom Eternal) via the new DLC as well? :)

Even though I had some complaints with it, I'd still say it's one of the better FPS games the last few years. It also looked really nice and ran like a dream. So I'm sure I'll play the DLC. I hope Bethesda sell it normally though, I never got the Rage 2 DLC because they only sold it in-game for "Rage credits" and required you to be online to use it. Screw that.

From the trailer it looks nice....as long as it is good(story/level wise) i'll like it, though of course if they change things a bit to address the things I didn't like as much i'll be even happier....gotta wair and see, though.

Well on console one has to be online, but I believe the DLC is purchasable with regular payment methods in the XB1 store....dunno about PC, though.

===============

To celebrate the new DLC coming soon...some uplifting and energizing music themed to fit a certain aspect of the game at hand: ;D

I bought RAGE 2: Deluxe from Amazon for like $13 or so, namely to get one of the RAGE 2 DLC's.
I think it's the Thunderdome DLC that is missing from this pack.

Regardless, RAGE 2's combat is great.

But I wish it had more story & character stuff, even a little bit. I'm not asking for PST here, but I'd like something with...a bit more than what's an offer. Even more like RAGE 1, I would've like.

RAGE 2 feels way too much like a typical Avalanche or UbiSoft open-world game with tons of side stuff and a not-so-spectacular main quest - sure, they're fun to goof off in and do stuff, but that only lasts for so long for me and I can only do that on and off here and there before it gets too repetitive for me.

It really is. Visuals aren't bad either. Story and "quest" design are abysmal, so it depends on what you're looking for, but I enjoyed my time with it. I think no matter how you buy it the DLC needs a Bethesda server check to work though.

Oh, yes; RAGE 2 looks really nice on the Apex Engine too. Can't argue that one.

Yes, I have the Bethesda Store version of the game. I'd have to check on the DLC - but the way things are these days, you're probably right about the DLC's (i.e. you need Beth-Server check for it to work).

The scene with the mask test makes the whole movie.

True enough....though there are other good moments/things in the film as well.

(That aside, this comment was more about the Doom DLC, which comes out on console in NA in 11 or so days :))

Sidenote: Imo Cochran is one of the best cheesy horror villains of all time.
