budejovice: Well, that was a pretty frivolous and lighthearted comment I made. Yes, I understand work and expenses are involved in running a successful business.

And yet I stand by my opinion that they fucked up something that should have been much harder to fuck up. :)
It's impossible to tell that kind of thing over the internet. Maybe next time include a /sarcasm tag.

I'm not arguing that Desura wasn't a steaming pile of incompetence - that's pretty clear. But lots of people have a surprisingly hard time doing business effectively.
It might be a good idea for GOG to try to make a deal with Desura and its publishers, that it takes over the accounts and games which are DRM free on Desura. Like for example I have Xenonauts on Desura. I backed it up, so in principle I do not really care, but in the rare chance that there is an update coming I would really like to be able to download from GOG. And maybe there are some Desura users which are not yet GOG users...
Snap, haven't finished the only game I have on Desura (Reversion Chapter One). Not that great of a game anyway but still, it's a tradiitonal point & click so I had to download it.

Hehe, and meanwhile that one can be downloaded for free directly from the developer:

Thanks for the tip, I thought only the first one was for free. Good to know I can download the 2nd chapter for free as well!

edit: apparently, the 2nd chapter is not free

Interesting idea. You should pass it along to GOG support if you haven't already -- it might just get filed away and never looked at again but you never know whose attention you might get and the seed of an idea might come out in a meeting or something and catch on. It's definitely in line with the 'Good Guy GOG' vibe that they promote here and it might just bring in some new accounts without tarnishing the brand by a full acquisition.

I would also say that GOG seems to be picking up their release schedule of late -- I wouldn't say the floodgates have opened yet but in the past couple months since they reached 1,000 games they've added something like 120+ games, which feels like a definite acceleration. They may be starting to be open to a broader selection of titles as their userbase grows and they become less 'boutique' and more 'emporium'.

Just clicked on the download icon and saw that it still links to store pages - so the 1st chapter is still the only one that's free :'/

Ah. I suspected so but I wanted to see if you had found some other link (or at least realize the horrible truth).

Pardinuz: Thanks for sharing those documents. Doc 21 is insane.

It's funny how they still keep that pile of lies up on the main page.
Looks like I found a silver lining for Desura in those documents. They owe $8081 less than they have listed, because ADP is listed twice for the same thing, once as ADP and the other as Automated Data Processing.

I doubt anyone needs to tell GOG about the Desura situation, or give them ideas. I'm sure they have an idea or two already.

While I'm sure they do, I never assume that someone or entity has "thought of everything". As a business owner, I always value my customer's feedback very highly, and there have been a number of times where customer feedback has led to breakthroughs for my business.

Ideas like "Woah, better not touch that with a bargepole!"? If they bought Desura theu have to make changes like getting rid of the Steam keys. That'd probably make them unpopular with all the indies.

The idea that was suggested was not to purchase Desura, which is obviously bad for GOG's brand. It is to get in touch with the developers that are signed with Desura and to offer GOG versions for people that have DRM-free games on Desura which are also in GOG's catalog so that Desura users can have access to updates and patches if Desura does indeed disappear. This has potential for bringing in new accounts, increasing the image of GOG as doing good for gamers, and yet still distancing GOG from the tainted Desura name (and also possibly bringing some new developers / games into the GOG catalog).

Exactly. For example, if there is an agreement between Desura, GOG and the publishers, Desura could write to all their customers offer them an optional moving of all their DRM free games to an already existing or new GOG account. This would not cost much (if anything) for GOG and would definitely produce some positive vibe.

I hope GOG employees are just reading here. I'm too lazy for contacting support.
