Those were the days.

I remember back in '98, my parents brought my sister and I to Best Buy to get us some computer games. My sister chose EverQuest. Since it was like $40 at the time, that was enough for both of us. Then as we were leaving I saw a game on sale for $10. It was called Total Annihilation with a big robot on the front. I begged for it, knowing nothing about it. After installing it, I fell in love with it. For years I have kept the CDs, installing them on every new computer I got up till this year when I got my first PC with windows 7. This was the only computer that would not run TA. I was pissed. Several months later, I saw this game appear on GOG for 5.99. I almost cried. I love this game dearly, and after buying it off of GOG, I haven't touched StarCraft II. So much can be said about how great this game is, I could spend all day writing. This game is worth every penny, from the graphics, to the gameplay, down to the soundtrack.

Great "casual" RTS

I'm normally not into RTS's. I loved "Z" (from the Bitmap Brothers) when it came out, and the Myth serie, but I can't wrap my mind around micromanaging ressources and units. Nevertheless I bought Total Annihilation here after reading a few reviews and I fell in love. It's all pretty straight forward in terms of ressource managements : build energy collectors, ressource storage enhancements, watch your supply plies grow without any further ~work~. The mobile units are similarly easy to handle, have relatively fine grained controls and an adequate AI and pathfinding which means you don't have to constantly control whether units are blocked somewhere or are attacking single handedly massive opposing forces. graphics and sound are a bit dated (especially the cheesy voice-over in the campaigns ;) but it doesn't hamper the really great gameplay. As someone else stated : unless you're absolutely completely turned off by RTS's this game is worth buying. For an RTS, it's nearly ~relaxing~ and it's pure fun.

An epic game

This is one of the best games to ever be released, I have spend long hours infront of this game, the amount of units on the field at once is breathtaking, especially considering the date it was released. If you have never played this before, you got a great chance right here to be a part of this epic game. Oh yeah, did they mention that you can play multiplayer too? So much fun!

Yes, you can have it all.

Want a game with a ton of different unit types that all serve their own unique purpose? Check. Want to be able to have hundreds of them all attacking at once? Check. Want a wealth of strategic potential, provided not only by your unit types, but the ease of which you can stack multiple orders - turning chaos and destruction into finely planned annihilation? Check. Want all of this to one of the best original orchestral scores ever produced for a game? This game's got you covered there too. Total Annihilation is the RTS for people who find C&C too simplistic but still want some chaotic battles.

A Timeless Classic

Total Annihilation is just one of those games that scream for attention, and it deserves it. Who needs a storyline when you have hundreds of units stampeding down upon your enemy? Who needs it when your listening to your thundering artillery and nukes arch across the games battlefield! A game worthy of its attention and a steal at only $6! A game which excels in the futuristic war of machines. I still own the boxed copy of this game and regular visit it time and time again. It was definitely one of the most innovative and well designed games of its time, featuring a full load of 3D unites and a well working game physics where the bullets and missiles obey the law. Definitely a must have at your LAN parties!
