I wanted to love this game but the combat is just not enjoyable at all! They throw lots of enemies at you and you literally have a single digit number of bullets on you most times. And only one can of fire as an emergency. And you have to save at checkpoints. And there is no dodge mechanic. Missing one bullet usually means you are screwed. And if two enemies merge, they create something with even more health and damage. Would have loved to explore more of this but it's not a fun challenge. This is simply NOT a scratch on Dead Space gameplay-wise.
This only took me an afternoon to complete but this remastered version plays very well with controller support and updated graphics! Good sound effects and gameplay but it's a little dated which is to be expected. A few minor bugs here and there but nothing major. Recommended!
This is an interactive movie more than a game, but it is fantastic! The graphics, the voice acting, the setting, the story - all amazing! I wouldn't say this is even a short game really. I do agree that this game does too much hand holding as others have said, but it didn't detract at all from the overall experience. If you liked Blade Runner, Cyberpunk, Bioshock, etc, and are happy to be part of a movie, I strongly recommend this game. If you're looking for interactivity and open world gameplay this isn't for you.
I completed the game in about 11 hours. I liked the levels and simplifying the game mechanics to remove the annoying chemical analysis minigame, and removal of the need for disguises etc brought it a bit closer to the older games which I preferred. I liked all the Lovecraftian stuff - the reason I bought the game! My main critique is that it didn't feel like there were many challenging puzzles really - it was only a matter of time before I got a sequence right, or had eliminated enough mind map clues. I wasn't really deducing anything, only eliminating possibilities. Still - I'm always happy for more Sherlock, more Lovecraft, and more Frogwares :-)
Great game - if you liked the first and enjoyed Limbo/Inside, get this. Only annoyance was frustrating 'combat' bits and some gameplay mechanics could be smoothed out but it's more than playable. Will replay to collect all the extras. Couple bugs I saw: Ceiling dude got stuck in one place, and HDR would randomly turn on, then off, then on again in certain scene transitions. Nothing major at all.
