Description

Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.

SURVIVE THE FUTURE. SALVAGE THE PAST

Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.

In the past, you will witness a world in the throes of The Change, a cataclysmic event that forever altered humanity. Meanwhile, in the ravaged wastelands of the future, every moment is a fight for survival against dangerous abominations that will test both your reflexes and your tactical thinking.

You are a Traveler working for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of time rifts that will transport you to 1980s-era Poland.

ADAPT OR PERISH

In a desolate world filled with ever-present danger, your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.

You can manipulate temporal Anomalies to clear a path through the desolate environment, and will have to scavenge for resources to replenish your limited ammo and supplies. Good preparation is key. Once in battle, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life
and death.

DON'T LET THEM MERGE

The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.

The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast.

If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.

HARVESTER OF SOULS

Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.

But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

The more you carry, the more haunted your suit becomes — increasing your prowess on the battlefield but also bringing with them whispers in your ear and flickers into your vision, edging you ever closer to madness.

Cronos: The New Dawn has an excellent, thoughtful premise that feels dark and dangerous, but does a poor job of executing on its promising sci-fi ideas. A questionable religion born from trying to save the world in the face of a rampaging disease with clear parallels to the global pandemic we all recently experienced is great fodder for a story, but I was left shrugging my shoulders by the end. Thankfully, the gameplay, though familiar, offered plenty to pull me through the approximately 12-hour experience to see the end.

Extremely limited inventory slots sometimes make these battles feel like I'm holding my breath underwater.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a fantastic addition to the survival horror genre, dishing out both survival and horror in equal measures. It can be overwhelming at first, but your confidence improves as you progress thanks to how The Bloober Team has designed the world and its environments. It also piques your curiosity in subtle ways, making you scour the world for snippets of information. Poignant moments in its narrative, shared with the people you meet, make its story a very nuanced exploration of how human greed can have the most devastating consequences, as does the tendency to attempt covering up one's mistakes. This is a game that I would recommend to anybody looking for a meaty story, and a challenging gameplay loop.

Not a Dead Space like but a Resi like

Lots of people are saying the game is like Dead Space simply because the character looks similar to Isaac Clarke, but the gameplay, pacing, and focus of the game couldn't be further away from that game. Dead Space is a fast paced game with labyrinthine maps that shower you with ammo and health items (yes even in the hardest difficulty settings) you were never really caring too much about inventory management unless you were playing the game on easier settings and had way more health items than you required. Here, in Cronos, inventory management is front and center, similarly to how it used to be back in the old days with the classic Resident Evil titles. Key items needed to progress occupy a slot in your very limited inventory. Enemies are tanky, a lot of the times you'll have to run rather than fight. Nothing like in Dead Space where it's all about being accurate and careful with your shots and the like. Cronos is a game that also deals with political conspiracies, time traveling, and experimentation in humans. Dead Space has some of the latter, but overall, it's more scifi and alien than this one. It's a nice game, but I really wish people would stop saying "iT's LiKe DeAD SpAcE" because it is not like that game at all... beyond a similar looking armor and walking animation, there's nothing these two titles share.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cronos: The New Dawn is a captivating blend of atmosphere and challenge. The world feels alive and mysterious, the gameplay is engaging without being overwhelming, and the progression system keeps every run rewarding. A gem that’s both immersive and addictive, highly recommended for anyone looking for a fresh and memorable experience on GOG and DRM FREE!!!.”

Cronos: The New Dawn

After 3 and a half hours it's a solid survival horror game. Very limited resources, good inventory management, and combat is brutal and intense. Worth it for me so far.

Stutter Hill

The stuttering in the game takes away from the gameplay. Throughout the intro I just kept lowering the display settings. Once the intro was over and the brief cinematic cutscene played I realized not only were my settings on low but so were my expectations. During the intro, I'm playing this survival horror game where "every bullet counts"...progressing along. Eventually I get a tip in the UI telling me that "shooting enemies in the legs will knock them over giving you an opportunity to reposition". Ok, cool! Said encounter happens. I take aim for the kneecap...BAM. My charged bullet, 1 of 12, is now lodged in the aluminium frame 3ft to the right of the enemy because the game stuttered. The Pause screen then appears because I got ****** up. There is a game here and I'm going to hold onto it in the hopes that future patches will allow better immersion but in its current state I can't recommend this game. I do have high hopes for the future of this game, the IP, and future games from Bloober. But I need to play something else right now.

Tough, but great survival horror

'Cronos: The New Dawn' delivers a mysterious story worth uncovering, solid survival gameplay, and combat that’s brutally challenging (no difficulty options; hard mode is the default). Excellent visuals, music, and atmosphere, with smooth performance to back it all up. Tough, but rewarding game (for having an easier and more story-focused experience, you may use a game trainer). I rate it an 8 out of 10, and, technically, it's likely Bloober Team's best game.
