I wasn't a fan of the first darkest dungeon. Although I liked the ambience, the storytelling aspect, and even the gameplay, I just didn't like managing multiple parties. Partly because I get easily attached to characters and the ammount of party members you needed in the first game was just overwhelming. This game resolves that issue for me. Once you setup your party, you go through a whole "run" with those characters. A common complaint I saw on the reviews was that the "runs" were too long for no reason. I disagree. it gives just the right ammount of time for them to develop relationships. Any shorter would have "cheapened" the character development and interpersonal relations. I could go on for a long time but basically, if you liked the ambience of the first game, that aspect remains intact. The gameplay loop is quite different though. I suggest looking up some gameplay videos before buying. I love it.
