Beyond: Two Souls

Decent game, clunky controls!

Very, very very, clunky controls - even with a gamepad. I often got frustrated cause you can't look around freely (most of the time), and you get stuck on things, and you get lost in tight spaces when the camera changes angle all of a sudden. Game is very much on rails, not much freedom. At one place you might use one of your abilities, but two minutes later when you want to do the same thing, then you can't cause the game decided otherwise. Anyway, some parts are really great, while others are extremely boring and tedious. I mostly liked the slow drama, and didn't like the loooong action-missions, where you "press A to go to cover" time and time again...

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition

Feels unpolished...

Crashing and freezing in different ways. Loading times can be insane (from a decent NVMe) - exiting a cave took me 20-30 seconds! I thought it was another freeze/crash, but was just loading times... Also got annoyed on all the loot you pick up, without knowing how heavy it is or how valuable it is. Constant looting, game is littered with trash to pick up. Apparently you need everything you can find for crafting, so better pic up all you see, and have a full inventory after just one hour - inventory that is cumbersome to access through menus and then try to filter/sort. Just seems like a big mess everything - unpolished, and not very helpful in trying to help you how to play. If you like Bethesda games, and have the patience, it probably is good though...many seem to like it.

The Painscreek Killings

Tedious!

Incredibly tedious/grindy - I've never opened so many drawers/lockers before, or tried so many keys on so many locked doors! Everything you do is also pretty clunky/slow. Not to mention all the code locks you find! Locked safe in a room? Also find a calendar with 5 marked dates? Could it be any of those dates? April 5th 1994 - that could be 0504, or 0405, or 9504, or 9545, or 9554...better try all combinations for all the dates! But wait, it could also be that this particular code is found later on in the game, and you just wasted minutes of your life in the tedious GUI! This game feels more about grinding than actual puzzle solving - grinding, backtracking, trying to find your ways in inferior maps. Game is driving me crazy so I'll uninstall it now! Nice not hearing that extremely repetetive music anymore!

Alan Wake

Pleasant surprise!

Got into playing this old game in 2023, and my expectations were VERY LOW! I thought I would regret my purchase within an hour or so. I was wrong - I got lots of entertainment from this game! Graphics look very good being from 2012, and the sound is top-notch - very immersive overall! I like all the characters you get to meet, and sometimes have by your side while fighting, but it can feel lonely/boring when you are left all alone for long parts. Very relaxing game, sitting in the couch and playing with a controller. I'm VERY bad at aiming with controller, but no problem in this game, cause you don't have a crosshair making headshots, you just shoot in the general direction of your light cone. So for people like me, wanting to relax with controller but being very bad at aiming, this game is very chill! Biggest downside is probably that it isn't scary, and it is very linear and scripted. I never bothered saving the game, not sure if you can or not, it's got frequent savepoints, so I never had any problem with that. Playing on easy was perfect for me, and some sequences I had to replay a few times, so it was a perfect challenge. If you are skilled you should probably up the difficulty a step or two...

Tormented Souls

Insanely difficult!

Play at own risk - I gave up after replaying the first 30 minutes like 10 times, trying to get a decently perfect run so I would have a chance for the rest of the game. But I always took damage from the enemies, since they have loooong range attacks. And every enemy take like 5+ bullets to kill, and they often reach you before you can shoot all those "bullets". The very limited save-points make it very frustrating! Game looks good anyway, and sound pretty good (annoying footsteps though). Not very frightening, compared to real horror games like Alien Isolation...mostly horror about getting hurt before you can save again so you won't have to replay the last hour...

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

Great sniping/military game

Much better than my expectations, I had so much fun with this, for at least 15-20 hours! Sandboxy like Far Cry, but felt more serious (you die pretty quick if you get spotted for example). Combined with the checkpoint savesystem this gives quite a bit of tension, and sometimes you progress very slowly/stealthy to be on the safe side. Often many ways to complete a mission - melee stealthy with knife (or throwing knife), ranged stealthy, or just loud with grenades and machinegun. You could also hack camerasystems (personally, or with your drone after upgrading it) so the cameras won't spot you. Line of sight and hiding all works great in this game. You tag enemies with drone (or sniping scope), and after that they are always visible with their tags...no fan of that but that's how it is. Sniping felt very good - you have different difficulty options, depending on how easy you want it to be. Personally I thought melee was the most fun, so I played this sniping game by mostly sneaking up on enemies. You can sneak up to them and press "v" for melee kill, or you can run towards them while holding down firebutton to kill them quickly with the knife, and those kills you can chain if several enemies are close to each other. You could also drop down on top of enemies if you are on a roof for example. And of course lure them away by throwing stones, or lure them with your drone, and even more ways. So it's very sandboxy and very creative in how you want to play it. The skill system could have been better though, you just unlock everything while playing. Would have been better if it was more RPG and you had to choose one way or the other, sort of locking out gameplay options. Now you can always do anything you want, sort of. At least when halfway through. Game looks good, and the rain looks better than anything I've seen! But runs very heavy - my 4070 with all on max at 4k gives me around 60fps! No DLSS in this game!

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

Good, but bugs/unstable!

Guess it's too old or something, but I get crashes now and then when in deduction space (many other threads about those and no solution for that). What's worse is that I, and some others, got stuck on case #4 (out of 6) and no solution there either, so I uninstall it now. I'm glad for the first three cases though cause they were really really good! And all cases are separate stories so I'm not missing the ending so to speak. Great buy on a sale, but beware it isn't very stable for some!

Eliza

Pretty interresting topic...

Pretty interresting topic these days, with all the talk about coming AI-revolution. At times it's pretty boring though, and it could definitly use more ambient sounds and more music, as well as a tiny little animation here and there. But oh well, game was pretty decent anyway, and interresting. Towards the end you have like 5-6 different endings to choose, depending on what future you want to pursui. You can end the game at any point and continue exactly where you were, it autosaves instantly which is very nice!

Kerbal Space Program

Hardcore, but very rewarding!!!

Might look too much of a challenge with all physics and stuff, but it's all very rewarding when you finally get the basics of space flight. I never had a clue how you reach the moon, or other planets - I though it's all about aiming straight to them and burn engines. This game taught me how it actually works - it's all about orbits! You are always orbiting something, and traveling somewhere is all about changing your orbit to match the target. And time it right! How and where you do that is what you'll learn while playing this game. As well as learn about Oberth Effect, Delta-v, TWR, apoapsis/periapsis, and so on and so on! I'm only 10-15 hours into the game, which means I'm just done with the tutorials. I'm glad I did quite a bit of research before buying this, cause there are lots of important concepts that are left out from the tutorials. I would recommend youtube tutorials by Mike Aben, those are the best! The 3-dimensionall Navball can be pretty hard to grasp for example, but just give it time and try things out in the game. It's not for the impatient, not a game to speedrun! ;p I really understand how some people have thousands of hours in this game! The game looks very dated, but with some easy-to-install-mods, grabbed from the official game site, it will look awesome! I recommend at least Scatterer + EVE Redux + Astronomers Visual Pack, to get athmosphere and clouds etc. Only downside so far for me, except the very steep learning curve, is that the objects in map-view are tiny in 4k resolution. You can scale everything in the GUI except these! Sure you can play in 1440p or whatever, but as everyone know the text instead gets a bit blurry then...

Wreckfest

Finally - a proper racing game on GOG!

I can hardly believe it - a modern, sort of AAA racing game, on GOG!!! Great news for the true GOG-gamers that don't use any of the other stores. I've played around with this for 1-2 hours now, with my XBOX-controller, having a blast. It looks great, and the driving and destruction models are perfect! It's not very clear though how the game works - what do the car classes mean, how are you supposed to play it, what about XP and credits, or the different game modes, nothing is explaind it seems? But whatever, you can play a custom game on any of the tracks and just have loads of fun :) I guess the idea is that for every race you complete you gain in level, and that unlocks parts (and hopefully new cars) along the way.
