Super cool game! I don't remember last time when a design was so fun, let alone inspire me to write it's "cool". It's polished and designed with a lot of thought, skill, and love. And it shows. These guys nailed it! What I love about this game - it's designed to keep you acting as a turn based game and want to experience the action and has a challenging difficulty that requires you to plan ahead with your moves so you can't just mindlessly run and gun 100%. Exactly what I like! Design wise it's a beautiful game, the gameplay is fun, the choiecs matter, and it gives you freedom to play as you like. If you had enough about those slow paced turn based tacticals like XCOM or Disgaea, this game let's you have a LOT MORE FUN, you don't feel constricted by trying to make every move count to a high degree. I also played Into the breach like other reviewers but into the breech was just pure puzzle mechanics, zero action. gameplay wise these are worlds apart and I think are compared more because of the pixel graphics.
I think i'm taking crazy pills as I have no clue how this game got mostly positive reviews. i tried to play it for 12 hours, got all hyped cos it's a Tim Cain game, but just couldn't continue playing. Game was written by a mix of safe corporate strategies and DEI fresh hires re-writing their first story they wrote in college when they heard some ramblings about feminism and capitalism from their lefty professors. wow, so brave and courage, and utterly boring and amateurish. All of the tropes I saw from other freshman in their 101 writing/movie courses in college: Capitalism le bed, men le bed/stupid/npc, women le good/voice of reason/courage/morality/authority, loads of 20yo college cynicism, not understanding of what makes a character interesting, poor mix of shallow humor, poor and artificial moral choices. I give up, don't know what's worse, if Tim can couldn't impact this game, or that he actually did and this is the result. 30$ wasted for a disppointment. Gameplay is also quite boring, quest solving is simple, no sense of progression or uniqeness to my character even though I tried to give it weaknesses and to make it interesting, it really has no impact on gameplay.
I thought it had more of a turn based dynamic vibe like xcom and the likes but only with pixel art and maybe smaller, but it's kind of a simple puzzle game where you have to calculate several moves and chain them, assuming with multiple repeats of the level to really achieve great results. not for me but i can see the appeal.
It feels like a quality product, I recommend this game to anyone who likes a good atmosphere and is somewhat into space. The sound design is fantastic! The trailer got me hooked so i took a chance on the game even though it's s genre i have never played. The sound is really great. The plot and the immersion keep me going and make the mechanics feel imactful. i'm like 10 hours into the game at normal difficulty and I really want to keep playing to reach the end of the game because it's just a really well made game. The atmosphere and challenge combine to a really fun and quality experience. Didn't think i'd enjoy this much playing this genre.. The only negative thing I can say about this game is the reading you need for the tutorial mechanics, it was not fun for the first 10 minutes reading up more and more about each new thing, but i stuck though it and after 10 minutes the game became interesting enough to push through the remaining "tutorials" that's my only complaint as a player new to the genre.
I really love this game, have 850 hours on it, the city is such an immersive experience, the game itself just lets you escape into another existance and it's a beautiful moment. yeah the combat is medium, the story is decent end engaging, but the world building is top notch. it sucks me in.
Almost every action you do in this game is satisfying! A few lines from someone who both played original titles such as Neverwinter1-2 and Divinity Original Sin 1-2. Game creators seem to have created a fantastic coop experience that takes the best of both words. The fun and rich world of DnD fused with whatever lessons they learned creating DoS1-2 (which had a long and boring-ish plot) into a game that keeps you engaged all the time but also feels rich, epic and gets you playing the way devs wanted it to be played. so much fun, go pick it up.
Anyone else notice most of the males are either evil or pathetic and all the strong, colorful, interesting complete characters are females with few flaws? yeah, I did, Strong pass. I know a bias when i see one. Just want to enjoy an RPG without getting the feeling that "boys bad, gurls awesome". I don't appreciate being lectured subtly by game creators. ironically I like writing strong and interesting characters and female characters as well, that's probably why the bias jumps out at me, there's no balance here.
A fantastic experience, This is the only game i can think of i need to reload if i run over a pedestrian while driving. Great characters that feel real, top notch world building, great storytelling and plenty of ways to engage with the world with either dialogue or combat. From a game world and design perspective it's masterfully done and stunning, it's a big world. The themes discussed in the game are great, the world is authentic and just feels like it would be in a world where Ghost in the shell happens, or Akira, or other cyberpunk themed world. I like this much better than witcher 3 as far as world building and characters and gameplay. Yes there are some bugs i've encountered, but none of them caused my game to be broken or take me away from the experience, i'm assuming when you got millions of people playing a very hyped game you'll get plenty of people zeroing in on anything they can pick at. This is the hottest game in town right now so i'm not surprised for a second some people hate it for their own political gain or that some spoiled users got it and compare it with some ideal game which doesn't exist. just makes them seem ungrateful spoiled human beings, I've been alive long enough to appreciate this piece of work and experience and be thankful. This game builds on the master works of classical Japanese anime and other cyberpunk themed movies and games and if you're familiar with this world you'll spot those easy as it both pays homage and expands but doesn't blindly copy the themes. Truly a fun experience for people that like cyberpunk or those that don't know what it is.
