The game has serious potential. It's bascially a bullet hell game with randomly generated maps. You're mission is to find a habitable planet, and while you're shooting and searching you'll find better weapons and powerups and coins to bring back to the station to upgrade stuff. The foundation is certainly here to be a very good roguelike game. The powerups are interesting along with the guns. Each gun uses a different type of ammunition: lazer, bullet, etc. The game is challenging (haven't beat it yet.) and addicting even with what's here so far, which is a decent amount of content, enough for you to see the potential this game has. I can easily see this game being another Binding of Isaac or better.
Think of this game like the Diablo 2 of tactical turn-based games. It's basically a Mount & Blade TBS with monsters and you're running a company of sellswords. The combat has a very addictive punch and it's extremely satisfying once you start to figure out how to stand a chance against enemies, but you're going to die a lot while you're learning. Something about looting the bodies you just slung all over the land is very very very addicting. It's an open world so you can play the game however you want on different difficulties. I typically don't have the patience for TBS games but this one's different and I can play it for hours without getting fatigued. There are so many good things to say I don't feel like typing it out. Watch a stream or two and see if you like it, then pay full price because the game is simply a masterpiece without all the slog that most other TBS game seems to suffer from. It's also always different, you'll have to approach every encounter differently. If you like TBS games this one will return on your investment for many many years.
I don't need to review NWN Diamond because people have already done it. This is more for the people on the fence. Enhanced has gotten a lot of unwarranted hate. I mean, you can now play NWN on modern systems with no problems, no workarounds, and easy to connect multiplayer. Sure older PWs don't work (some are being updated to work with EE) but the community has been bolstered by EE's release, so surely new and better PWs will be released. I held off for a long while before buying because of listening to all the hate (basically whiners) and have zero regrets. Very glad about the purchase. No more bs to get the game running on modern systems; big updates planned down the line as well. If you're on the fence purchase it.
Get this game. There's only one chapter so far, but soon two more modes will be added along with more chapters. It's about time GoG got a decent survival game similar to Subnautica. And the best part is it's an Unreal Engine game, so you won't have all the performance issues of the Unity engine or getting screwed when the developers decided to update their game to a new version of Unity and you're games borked (ala Sunless Sea.). At this moment the game is a great 15 buck investment.
This is a great game, the roguelite elements really complement the Hammerwatch formula. It's fun, addicting, and very challenging. If you don't like a good challenge you're best to shy away and go play something else. The only real negatives are no lan, no linux because of GoG and their terrible lack of linux Galaxy support, and no direct IP option.
If you like RTS games but bore easily of the tedium of base building, constant clicking, and unit ques, give this game a shot. Your commander is your cursor. You rally your troops to advance or retreat or hold position. This game hits a good mix of depth and strategy though at first glance it seems shallow, but it's right up there (better if you're not a click freak) with Starcraft in terms of Strategy. It's very addicting blowing up enemy warrens. Even clicking buttons in the menu is satisfying. At the start of each match you'll pick your army, your choice is limited though so it requires thought, and you'll battle it out with flame throwing skunks, drunken squirrels holding machine guns, and sniper foxes. Did I mention owls? Each match is played on a randomly generated map, which is pretty fuckin' awesome. Soon a map editor will be released, too. The matches are short so if you're a parent you can hop on, play a match, go back to screaming baby. The campaign is a pretty addicting set of story missions. Typically I only play RTS games for skirmish with bots (this game has, by the way—they put up a much better challenge than allot of other RTS bots) but I enjoy the story missions in this. They're entertaining to boot. If you're in the mood for an RTS game without all the bullshit, give this a go.
If you like any Serious Sam games, you'll probably like this. The quality of the art is amazing, and the gameplay is frantic and fun. I've spent hours just playing the game, and so far spent just as many making my own campaign with the editor, which is surprisingly easy to figure out. Get this if you're a Serious Sam fan, you won't regret it.
