METAL SLUG X

The best/ worse version of Metal Slug 2!

Basically, Metal Slug X is the technical best version of the second entry of the saga , but also (and that's my opinion) a little less... impactful, compared to Metal Slug 2 (where things in the saga will start to get ''weird'', which is a good thing and gave the slug instalments something very unique compared to other peers of the genre). Plus, this version offers net play and leader board score, if that's your sort of thing! Soooooo... yes! absolutely worth it!

METAL SLUG

Welp, it's the OG!

Basically, Metal Slug in all of its glory and ''pure'' arcade gameplay: beautiful graphics, straightforward story and action packed gameplay. No more, no less. Plus, there's net play and leaderboard score, if that's your sort of thing! So, a classic upgraded just enough to not lose its OG feeling. Afficionado or not, this is gem is truly recommended!

Exophobia

Finally, Some fresh air!

(Got the game on Steam) Exophobia, while not being a masterpiece, is certainly a game to remember: a Wolfenstein-inspired MetroidVania FPS that just using the ''horizontality' of the level design manages to give a new perspective on fights and gunplay! Furthermore, music and design are on point, giving the game a solid look and feel. So, a great choice if you are looking for a FPS-bridge between old and new, and definitely worth checking out even if you're not!

Way of the Red

A good retrò inspired platformer

This is my second playthrough (the first one was when the game first came out) and I must say Way of the Red is a really enjoyable platformer, especially considering it was made by a single person, and it does provide a true ''Nes'' experience with some innovation. In particular, I enjoyed the fact the most of the level design (which is average, but fun enough) has been developed with verticality in mind (since you're a bird and all). So, nothing ground-breaking but certainly a good game right there.

Requiem: Avenging Angel

Edgy story, good Ideas but weak shooter.

Unfortunately, Requiem avenging angel didn't stand the test of time: despite the good ideas and powers similar to its peers ( dark forces II comes to mind), the actual gameplay feels off, and not on par with today standards (or yesterday standards, to be frank). So, there is a reason why, in the end, this game remained an obscure and forgotten title among the FPS fans.

SYNTHETIK: Legion Rising

Among its peers, its almost unique!

There are too much things to say about this little gem, and I won't waster my breath explained the mechanics: just read the other reviews. However, I'll say this: this is one roguelike that truly. doesn't. die. it's always fun and fresh, and that's a sign to incredible game design right there. Truly reccomended!

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

Bigger and Better

... aaaaaaaand that's it. If you played and liked the first one, you'll love its sequel: more monsters, bigger levels (a little too big), more secrets, more ''serious'' humour (actually, this is where the saga will start adopting the funny easter eggs and its ''mental'' plot :)) and... more Sam! A little too ''more'', actually: there are imbalances with enemies number and way too death traps... but you can simply lower the difficulty and should be fine. That said, as one of the luckiest ( Croteam started from nothing, basically) and a true masterpiece among the arena shooter PVE, this is an easy yes! So, time to get ''serious'' >:)

Kingpin: Life of Crime

Good ''vibes'' but mediocre shooter.

...And that's it. Enjoyable but repetitive music, cheesy dialogue (which half of it is swearing) and really, really a mediocre shooter (almost ''bad''). There are some saving features, however: a surprisingly good AI, some nice mechanics (primarily, talking method to the NPCs) and a little of ''quest'' that need some exploring (and time to decipher them... I admit, I was giving up at first since I simply did not understand what I was supposed to do at the start). ... Unless you have nostalgia glasses, this is not a game that I'd usually recommend... but some ideas of it are... interesting, to say the least.

Dustforce DX

Amazing in what it does!

Man, I remembering playing years ago and decided to pick it up again and... welp, it's a great game, with really good design and gameplay despite being a little niche (which is not the reason of my 3 star review). Truth to be told, the idea is great, its application is... medium. Basically, unless it is your genre (2d precision - although the controls are exactly precise - with no real enemies and a focus on complete perfectly a level) you'll get bored, really fast. But, if you are into this sort of thing, then Dustforce is really for you (with some minor downside in the control department... which really needed some ''polish''(Managed to insert that one)) and it is a game that you'll find yourself ''dusting off'' from the shelves for a while! (yup, sorry for the weak pun but I'm really tired).

CyClones

An underlook good game.

CyClones is really one of those ''experimental'' titles of the 90's that tried to use the ''System Shock formula'' in a different mix up, or maybe without understanding what made that particular game great. Still, even with its failings (redundancy, mostly) it is an enjoyable experience (with a surprisingly good audio bangers) and well worth trying it out.
