SKALD: Against the Black Priory

Almost perfect...

...in what it wants to accomplish (even cut) Basically, a solid (C)RPG, which story throw me off at the start (if you are looking for more ''fantasy'' story, this ain't it) and really enjoyed the experience (and the ending, which was not only fitting but perfect for the particular genre this game takes inspiration to). Gameplay wise, the combat system is well-though (albeit having a tad boring fights, but that's just poor planning) with enough class differentiation (for a game that uses a system similar to that of D&D) Furthermore, I think the devs intends this game to be like a ''Neverwinter winter Nights'' sort-of base game, with modules that could expand the experience further. So, why the 4 stars? The base game is... well, not unfinished (actually, the devs managed to close the main story in a more than decent way) but it got cut, and it shows near the ending (I believed the map could, at least, be twice more... populated with things and quests to do) and, as said before, the combat is a little boring (with some questionable boss fights). Still, a remarkable experience, both traditional in mechanics and compelling in story telling. Recommended.

Mortal Kombat 4

Got the 'blood' tinted glasses for MK4!

...which is also the first one I had played out of the MK saga. But time has passed, and I must admit that 5 stars was too much for MK4 (not even gold edition, which GOG still haven't realised), but its technical ingenuities (it was the first one ''3D''), for its time, are not to be discarded so easily. 3D, but not really (the very ''first'' one would be the one after, the acclaimed Deadly Alliance), MK4 finds itself in a ''weird'' spot, between the rigid but fun gameplay of the first trilogy (not the game, I mean the actually 3...4...5 ''arcade'' games) and the nuances of the MK that would follow. Still, and perhaps even so for its uniqueness, deserves to be at least tried once by fans, and even not so much. Simply put, simple, but extremely fun! P.S. Plus, this is the game where I found my main (BOI) Quan chi! and the best announcer out of the entire MK saga!

POSTAL: Classic and Uncut

Ok, let's be serious...

...Why? Why would anyone (that is above the age 16 [if you're 17, you are NOT excused]) enjoy playing this sorry excuse of a pointless, idiotic, boring, mass-murder shooting game? (I can already hear some saying ''now I m really gonna play it. if you do, get some help.) I mean, if you aren't literally wearing 'rose-tinted' glasses, this game should provoke only 'confusion' in 'how did it get so much popular' (Actually, it is extremely simple understand the why. Let's view some of the 'Gamer culture' with a little more 'clarity'. and I say this as my 25 f**ing years as a gamer) This ain't an 'edgy-satyrical-makes-fun-of-all game. it's utter trash. I don't want waste anymore time on this. It's free, sure, but you time isn't. Avoid it.

Thief™ Gold

One of the fathers of the Stealth genre

Even if you don't like the genre (or are not a fan), thief is undoubtedly one of the most relevant piece of videogame industry due to its technical implementations and ImmSim(-Ish) features. For every videogamer out there interested in playing pivotal points of this industry, Thief is a must.

Dishonored - Definitive Edition

A great 'Victorian-dystopian' ImmSimm...

...And spiritual successor of ''Thief'', Dishonored needs no introduction, being renowned almost like a cult classic. The game proudly displays profound Worldbuilding, little-too-simple but enjoyable story and an ''ImmSimm'' gameplay philosophy (let's no delve into that argument) based on stealth (or pure mayhem. which ever you prefer). A must-Play, for both aficionados of the genre and others alike.

My Friend Pedro

Let's no go full 'Banana', because...

...While the game is undeniably good, and it does try introduce new elements during gameplay, unfortunately the rhythm becomes stale (still, it is enjoyable) and it's 'floaty' movements are something that break a little bit the gameplay. Story wise, it is funny enough ( almost 'deadpool' like, or at least remind me of. And let's be honest, I 'm little tired of that type of character design, and I know tis' simply my personal preference) but if you remove the shallow 'pop' jokes, there isn't really much to talk about: environment (beside some part of it) is something seen a thousand times and repetitive, no real enemy variety and some gimmicks are just that. Gimmicks. Still, it is worth trying it out, but not near enough to access the Olympus of its peers... which is good: not every game must be a masterpiece in order to be enjoyed.

Viscerafest

Ok, Let's start from the top!

- Old school, pristine and awesome graphics? yes! - Over-the-top and extraordinary fitting music? ooooh, yes! - INCREDIBLE voice actors? OHOOHOHO you bet! (especially the main character: really, and I mean really surprised me!) - Starting-hilariously-silly-but-then-twisting-into-something-different but ALWAYS intriguing? GOD, YES! (I admit, the story was the main part that get me going to the end. and it's not just the mere plot: the way it's delivered is better even than most adventure games) - Frantic Gameplay, reminiscent of Quake but almost evolving into a style of its own?? yes.... ...And that's why, although amazing, the game doesn't reach the 'masterpiece' status (only if not by an inch. Although Viscerafest is undoubtedly a passion project, made with a clear artistic intent, that purpose... welp, it's intended for a very niche kind of gamers. Now, I should have written before: Although it does look like one, and in certain areas it actually is, I personally don't consider the game to be a 'boomer shooter', at least not by the 'standard definition' (which is silly: there are no 'guidelines' how to make one, but for the purpose of my review, and to make the readers aware of what they are buying, let's use it). Basically, the game plays like it was made for kids after taking Amphetamine: it's OVERWELMING fast, the player is forced in bunny-hoping the whole time (which is a designed core mechanic, which I believe is interesting) and it needs you to be able to make split-second quick-decisions constantly (I must admit, I no longer am that young but I do have a over-two-decade experience playing this type of games and I needed to lower the difficulty to hard, in order not finish it). And yet, I was captivated by the story that I simply needed to finish it! So, yes, An awesome game that I hope shall have a sequel more... relaxed! P.S. you can auto-bunny-hopping by keeping pressing space bar... you're welcome me later.

Narita Boy

This game I will remember for the rest..

...of my life. Yup, that's should be it. I thought a little bit about how to 'describe' Narita boy, and while descriptive capabilities I don't think to lack, on this subject I always fall short on words. For inspiration, I read the other reviews, and while I understand their opinion, I think most miss the point. Narita boy is what I called not a videogame, but a fable. there is only one other game (two in fact, but one is the sequel of the other, so It doesn't count) I gave that definition, and like Narita boy, It's a masterpiece (if you are wondering, it's Twinsen: LBA 1 & 2). Perhaps a little more mature, but still It manages to transport you not just into another world, but another time, another... feeling. I could spend time describing the presentation, the music (which is, literally, one of the greatest you'll ever hear in the industry. Something that puts 'Symphony of the night' to shame), the graphics, the story (simple but deeply profound), the gameplay (perhaps the only feature with some negligible downsides)... but I won't. I am a fan, sure, but even as a fan I tell you: Play it. Live the journey.

Dark Legions

In its prime, one hell of a game...

....But it didn't last the test of time, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong: the gameplay is pretty interesting, the presentation is charming and graphics pretty crispy... but without the focus on a single-player campaign, few maps, slow pacing (and this with disabling the animation option) and, to be frank, not that many character options... welp, it does become quite boring, quite fast. BUT! if you like playing fantasy skirmishes and games that do like to mix up gameplay mechanics (strategic and action ones) and manage to do it reasonably good, I'd give it a chance.

Bastion

Man, this brings back memories...

...Basically, after almost 7 years without a pc, but still a teenager, Bastion (together with Cave Story, was my very first game I had that... welp, makes me still play to this very day. Now, I won't go in detail as to why this game made me love indie games... or gaming, in general. All I can say, It's not just about gameplay, which is extremely solid and with some minor innovation (at least, for the time), it was... everything. SuperGiant games, of which I became I fan of every single game they published, managed to create something that employs every single senses (story, music, way to tell a story, etc...) to give not a game, but a tale to live in. Even if you are not an indie, or an isometric action, or gdr, or whatever genre you like.. if you are a videogame's fan, Bastion is the experience to have. One truly memorable.
