Ash of Gods: The Way

Great card and turn-based strategy game

A gem of a game, with an engaging story wrapped around a solid turn-based strategy game featuring 4 (and ultimately 5) factions / decks which are unlocked over the campaign. The game also features great voice-acting and little in the way of bugs despite the complex calculations which must underly the game. Highly recommended.

Deepest Chamber: Resurrection

Excellent game

Game was relatively cheap so I was not expecting much. However, the animations were crisp, the sound good and the gameplay loop was engaging. No bugs in sight and it was a good deckbuilder / roguelike game. The only minor downside was the limited story / plot but the game was fun to play.

Rogue Waters

Fun and engaging game

A quality rogue-like game with elements of FTL, great voice acting and no bugs in sight. You can configure and upgrade your crew, ship and captain over a number of story and procedurally-generated missions. The missions can start to get repetitive, but the games breaks this up by introducing a range of new different enemy types as you go along. Good value for money.

Lost Eidolons

Excellent story and voice acting

The story and voice acting in this game are fantastic. There are lots of recruitable characters, and you can customise their equipment, skills, etc. to ultimately build up a 10-strong party to field in combat. However, be warned that combat is very difficult (I had to dial it down to the lowest level just to get through). However, this game does reward perseverence and is well worth seeing through to the end.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Great Warhammer 40K Role Playing Game

A great game with tens of hours of content, a well written and engrossing story, some great voice acting and a pleasure to play. The game is very well put together, with lots of different options available. The turn based combat works well, as does the companions you can recruit. Despite the large amount of content, I only noticed a few bugs, all of which could be overcome with a little trial and error. I am certainly looking forward to the season pass content once it comes out.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

One of the best Role Playing Games ever made

A game with great graphics and gameplay with a fantastic plot and lots of content. It is similar to some of the best games from Bioware's glory days like KOTOR and Jade Empire, but with much better graphics and greater content. The game gives the player great freedom to explore its world and some of its mini-games are good enough to be stand-alone games in their own right (such as the business management game). The turn-based combat is fantastic and there are many skill trees available to build up the main character and party members. The English voice cast is excellent (including a marvelous performance by George Takei of Star Trek fame). Despite the size of the game and the large amount of content, I could not find a single bug in the game - it is quite a quality production. The main story was humorous and moving, and many of the side-quests were well-written and unpredictable. In summary, the game was great fun to play and never got boring. Highly recommended.

Expeditions: Rome

One of the best games on GOG

The game provides a campaign mode placing you in charge of Roman legions which does not impose a time limit so you can enjoy the experience. It also features exciting turn-based strategy based around small squad combat. In addition, it features an engaging and thought-provoking story, with great writing and impressive voice acting. A great deal of love and research seems to have gone into the historical setting of the game, with many characters referred to in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and Anthony & Cleopatra getting a mention. The story deviates from historical accuracy in interesting and unexpected ways, but always to advance the very engaging plot and to put you in the centre of the action. The graphics and sound and stability of the game are also top notch. I did not come across any bugs despite the great amount of content in the game. Highly recommended.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

Great game but only on lowest difficulty

When I first started playing this game, it was so frustrating I was going to get rid of it as it seemed impossible to progress far and was only a 2 star game. Then, I turned the game down to its lowest difficulty ("Normal") and discovered a game with great story, good turn-based tactics and RPG elements. Highly recommended.

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut - Deluxe Edition

Fantastic game

This game has great graphics, engaging turn-based combat, atmospheric voice acting, great songs, a rewarding character development / levelling up / inventory system and great story writing. Why not 6 stars? The puzzles in the game are annoying. In hindsight, I should have taken up the option at the start of the game to skip the puzzles. If I had, I would have found the rest of the game excellent. I cannot recommend this game enough for its enjoyable core gameplay (excluding the puzzles) and its engaging story.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter

Not bad except for Epping Forest section

Many of the negative reviews are focused on how bad the Epping Forest `action' section is in the first case of the game. These reviews are accurate as this section is very painful and cannot be skipped. However, if you persevere and get through this section, the rest of the game is really very good. The voice acting, graphics and mood of the game are really good. It captures the feeling of being Sherlock Holmes and the atmosphere of Victorian England. There are some annoying `action' sequences in the later cases, but they can all (thankfully) be skipped. What you are then left with is an excellent Sherlock Holmes adventure game.
