I'm still having issues with the links, specifically those through Gibbers.

It'd be a whole lot easier of GoG would be willing to provide an "unofficial" update mod pack to download separately so people can avoid these kinds of issues. Centrally managed would be a lot more convenient.

The modders don't ask much for their hundreds of hours of work, only that you go to their website to download the mods.
The G3 website is working for me.

To add to what olnorton said, if GOG hosted mods for IWD, then they'd pretty much be obligated to host for every other moddable game they sell. The amount of work to do this, as well as trying to make sure the modders keep their mods up to date on the site, tracking/testing compatibility, making sure they're virus/malware free, hosting, and providing DL bandwidth for this free content would IMO make it completely not worth the effort.

Sure, it would be easier and far more convenient for us gamers, but I highly doubt it would have any appeal for GOG.
Just wanted to say thanks, pcamagna for your work on the mods and the modding guide. I'm running my first run through the IE games and the mods (yours and others) have really made it an enjoyable experience. :)

These are all good points, but I think the issue many modders (myself included) have with a centralized repository is that it puts the players one step further away. I can't fix a bug or incorporate suggestions or address a conflict that I don't know about. I have a vested interest in folks playing my mods to also come and visit the G3 forums or communicate somehow with me. There's no such thing as too much feedback or too many bug reports, as both are critical to making non-crappy mods.

I have a little bit of trouble with widescreen mod for IWD. And the trouble is that at 1080p the interface is awfully small and this mod (www.shsforums. net/topic/52452-bigger-fonts-mod-for-baldurs-gate-2/) isn't installing for me :\

Is there maybe a mod made specifically for IWD? If it could magnify not only fonts, but the other elements of the UI that would be rad.
Quick question, What if I want to play the game as vanilla as possible with bug fixes and Widescreen mode and as little "additional content" as possible. What mods would I need then?

Just the fixpack -- you don't even need the widescreen mod, just run config.exe and unlock the unsupported modes.
@pcamagna - Just wanted to say thank you for this. Now that it's running perfectly, (even better than I remember), I realize just how much I missed Icewind Dale.

Cheers! Now if we can just get this stickied in place of the existing mod thread...

I also tried updating my original post, but the forums are being stubborn, so I'll post this here instead.

3/5/2014 Update - The 'True IWD Experience' Mini-Guide

A common player request seems to be to play IWD as true to the original as possible, with maybe some bugfixes thrown in, but without all that icky content from modders. In that spirit, I've provided a mini-guide.

Install the game--using GoG, that's all you need to do. If you're installing from another source make sure you're patched up (see the first post).

One Pixel Productions Animation Fixes for IWD:TotLM: Fixes some broken hardcoded stuff from TotL.

The IWD Fixpack: Fixes, fixes, fixes.

That really should be it. If you're willing to go a bit further, there are a few more things you might consider that still preserve the original spirit:

One Pixel Productions High-Quality Music: The same original music, just encoded at higher quality.

Unfinished Business for Icewind Dale (aka IWD UB): JE Sawyer was kind enough to let me pester him with lots of questions, so these restorations should be pretty close to the original developer intent. I personally do not recommend Restored Random Drops--it restores a lot of items that were cut with the HoW expansion, and I think they were good cuts since most of them were overpowered. Marketh's Ring also seems to be unpopular with players.

The Widescreen Mod: Play at higher resolution.
Wow thanks a lot for this CamDawg, really helped me.

As a first timer the True IWD Guide was exactly what I was looking for.

Is there a way to request for a sticky in these forums?

Btw, I know your not responsible for the 1PP Animation Fixes for IWD:TotLM mod, but I noticed that after installing the "restore combat animations'' component that my characters always go into ''combat stance'' whenever I order them to alway around or when they enter certain places. Also, when I talk to certain npcs they also display the combat animation, i.e. Arundel, even though theres no combat going on.

Do you, by any chance, know if this effect is intended? I`m trying to figure out it this is a specific issue of the 1PP mod or if this is caused by the install order/other mods comprised in the True IWD Guide.

thanks again!

I wish. I've been hoping this would replace the currently stickied but horribly outdated thread for some time now. It recommends Widescreen first, which is a spectacularly bad idea and will ensure a lovely game full of crashes.

Well the animation issue was hardcoded, so 1PP has to go in and poke around in the exe. Unfortunately, I believe this is one of the side effects.

Typically, you just need to ask a blue, but you would want it updated first.

I'm guessing you were over the character limit for a single post. If you can't make it fit then it may be better to create a new thread and use the first few posts.
