Has anyone else had troubles downloading the IWD NPC pack? The download doesn't want to start for me.
So for BG obviously the main fixpack merges BG1 and BG2 into one seamless game. I thought I read somewhere that a similar mod worked for IWD and IWD2 letting you run IWD on the IWD2 engine... Is that not true?

Sorry for the dumb question.

"The only dumb question is the one not asked." The rumor of the merge mod has been around a long time. There was an attempt to port IWD1 into IWD2 over at Gibberlings 3, but it seems to have died. It was not a BGT/Tutu type mod (this is probably what you meant since no fixpack merges the BG games), however. The manuals make it clear they're completely different and unrelated games taking place in completely different times.
Yeah, there's been a couple of conversion attempts. Since IWD2 is the only IE game to use the 3E ruleset it makes it very attractive, or unattractive, as a conversion target.

Weimer tried getting BG2 into the IWD engine to make it a 3e game Icewind Gate, forever at an open beta). You're probably thinking of IWD1 Tutu, which sought to bring the 2e IWD content into the IWD2 3e engine but has never seen a release.

And just to round out the conversions, DavidW and I have a beta of IWD-in-BG2; which seeks to move the IWD content into the more modern BG2 engine to allow for goodies like dual-classing, NPCs, kits, etc.

edit: is it really that hard to have a preview, GOG?

Most other forums do, Wishlist.
Hi everyone,

Firstly, a big thanks to pcamagna for this guide, it has inspired me to revisit this game which I very nearly completed nearly a decade ago but never quite managed :( Plus I have never played HoW or TotL so I am looking forward to that! Bargain price from GOG too, I own the CDs for this (somewhere) but at this cost and with all the extras included it was far easier just to buy it again.

Anyway, the question I had was, can anyone help me to find Auril's Bane? The link in the guide appears to be broken. Of course I have tried Googling it but with only limited success so far. A link would be very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Simon

Wow, tough to find, but looks like you can get it Here. Scroll down to the bottom of the post and choose the first link under 'Mirror 1'. Seems to be up and running.

Thanks, I've updated the link in the OP. AB seems to move around every few years for no discernible reason.
Thanks guys! Do I need to download all the files on that page?

Kinda confused how to install it.

Those mirrors hold copies of all of the Chosen of Mystra mods, not just Auril's Bane. You'll want the AB_TotL.exe file since GOG's IWD includes Trials of the Luremaster.

And now that I look at it, this might be a more stable download link:

Cameron, it might be a bit much to ask, but could you make a guide for IWD2 as well? I got confused trying to come together with a good list to play a vanilla game of IWD2 that's bug-free (Improved Initiative! ugh!), annoyance-free and in (relatively) high-res. I've consulted http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46611, but there's a lot of stuff there that's superfluous, outdated, or both. And since the widescreen mod distorts the interface, a separate mod is needed to fix that - there have been some suggestions to use http://www.shsforums.net/topic/52452-bigger-fonts-mod-for-baldurs-gate-2/ ... should I get to testing, do you have any ideas, or can I hope for IWD2:EE in the not-too-distant future? :3

Also, is there a mod manager for any of the IE games?

Is there any plan to update this guide? it seems really helpful, but there are some links that are incomplete due to gibbers being down, and I'd love to get this game rolling!

I'm not nearly familiar enough with IWD2 modding to do this. This list was a lot easier, as I'm the author of a lot of them. :)

There is not. This has been a dream of just about anyone who sees WeiDU at the command line, but no one has managed to get a decent one working.
All Links are fine now, thx to the modders for all the work over the years.
Here i go for another run through the Dales.
