Geometric Nirvana

Super Hexagon, a highly addictive, trance-inducing zen exercise in channeling your brain into your fingertips is available for $2.99.

Geometric shapes in neon-like colors. Six one-minute stages. Only two control inputs. One tiny arrow. All adds up to one of the most infectious, rewarding, and challenging gaming experiences you will ever know. Don't get me wrong - you will get frustrated, you will lose, time and time again your tiny cursor will get crushed by the glowing barrier. And somehow you will keep playing, hammering away at the keyboard with reckless abandon, all in hope for your nirvana, exhilarated with every additional second by which you have beaten previous personal best. Welcome to the brutal world of Super Hexagon.

The game is a masterful, minimalist blend of fast-paced action, pulsating geometric visuals, and chiptune bliss courtesy of Chipzel. The elegant, simplistic design allows the gamer to merge mind with muscle, and get to the bottom of the incredible relationship between a nerve impulse and physical reaction. Ultimately it's you against your reflexes, striving to overcome the lag between a twitch in your brain and a twitch in your trigger finger.
Train your brain, perfect your reflexes, never blink. Experience Terry Cavanagh's sublime masterpiece Super Hexagon for only $2.99, DRM-free on GOG.com.

GOG.com: Quote from the game's page:
"Though hexagon may appear to be a difficult word to rhyme, there are actually dozens of words that rhyme with it. For example: Autobahn,...[...]"
Huh,...?
I don't know how you pronounce "Hexagon", or "Autobahn"...but as a German, I can tell you, both words have nothing in common - except that they both consist of three syllables.

They definitely do not rhyme! o.O

The final syllables do :P Hexa-gahn and Auto-bahn. Well, hrnn, it's hard to put the pronunciation down into text properly.

Hexagon [hɛksaˈgoːn] vs Autobahn [auto'bah:n] - Nope, "o" and "a" still don't rhyme! At least not in German :o)

I wouldn't say it rhymes either, but maybe in some places hexagon is pronounced differently.

I pronounce the ending like the word "gone" or "lawn". If I'm understanding, you pronounce it like "loan" or "flown", which would indeed make it not rhyme.

This is fun :)

Yepp, that's why I wrote "I don't know how you pronounce "Hexagon", or "Autobahn" in my initial post.
Because, in German they're pronounced very different - as I tried to show through my "phonetic transcription". :)

I pronounce the ending of "Hexagon" as "gone", too...but the "bahn" (if correct pronounced in German) is not pronounced with an "o", but with an "a".

Unfortunately I cannot think of an English word, that uses the same pronunciation.

To make the two words rhyme, I'd need to pronounce "Autobahn" as "Autobohn"...and a "bohne" is the German word for "bean", and has nothing to do with a "bahn" which would be "lane" in English.

Quite complicated... ;)

IAmSinistar: You should post this review on the gamecard, it's well written.
I'd like to. I just tried, in fact. Sadly, it's clear that GOG's ridiculous review limitations have not changed at all. (And I'm not going through that again.)

Think US accent. Then it definitely rhymes.

After all, they pronounce it roughly "hexagahn". ;)

P.S.: Of course, this only applies to certain US accents. Texas, by and large, would be a good example.

Ottoman. :D

And as for the game: I totally couldn't understand the whole craze for the free mobile version and frankly, that craze seems to be the only reason why anyone feels the game deserves a commercial desktop release (just like no sane person would release Angry Birds at the price that the PC version was released at if it wasn't for its insane cultural impact). Seriously, I'd have a hard time appreciating the game as a freeware release. I've already wondered when the first indie game is gonna come along that will have a regular price of less than 6 bucks but frankly, for this game even 3 bucks seems steep.

I personally enjoy the game on a 22'' LCD :p
If you want a free alternative, try Open Hexagon.
Very sweet release.

Considering the amount of gametime and fun I got out of this + the satisfaction to complete all stages I consider 3 bucks a bargain. But this is probably a matter of taste.

Trilarion: Inside the download? I won't buy it so it doesn't help me and tools is quite a generic term.

Maybe only for classics, but this game is so simple that charging $6 is probably too much. It's similar to many action android or flash games which usually cost around $1-$5.

TurnipSlayerr: For classic games we're keeping to our standard pricing but for new games we don't have any limitations now.
Thats... Actually seems a shame when there's descent older games out there that maybe can't justify $5.99 by themselves - I'm thinking Arctic Express, Iceman, maybe even Nethergate when other Spiderweb stuff gets sold in packs...
