Great as the Sphinx, powerful as the pharaohs, more time-consuming than building the pyramids.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra, a city management gem from the creators of Caesar III and Zeus + Poseidon, is available now on GOG.com for only $9.99.

You cannot get any better in terms of PC city building: all of the experience in making fantastic construction and management games of Impressions Games (Caesar and Zeus series), and all of the publishing expertise of legendary Sierra Entertainment, combine with a dash of the fascinating world of the Sphinx, Pyramids, and the Egyptian Gods and some historical knowledge, and you've got yourself Pharaoh + Cleopatra. It’s a SimCity type of game but with more content than sand in the Sahara Desert. Building, trade, farming, health care, immigration, military, and, of course, building monuments and temples to please the gods.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra offers not only gorgeous 2D isometric graphics (and hieroglyphic buttons!) with flawless game design, but is an “Egyptology for Dummies” text-book as well: the richly detailed world, dependent on the great Nile and its flows, the wild animals, the great heights and the tragic lows. This game stays true to chronological order of national disasters, births and deaths of notable leaders, and the founding and fall of ancient cities in the history of Egypt.

Pharaoh + Cleaopatra should come with a notice: it’s extremely addictive, time- and eyedrop- consuming, if applied without caution may result in sleep deprivation and extreme interest in ancient cultures of Nile Valley. You have been warned, but it might be too late, since Pharaoh + Cleopatra is available now on GOG.com for only $9.99.

zeffyr: I don't think, that in 2012 copy protection from 90's could be any trouble...
It is when it is encoded as part of the game itself, as opposed to something seperate, but connected. A few games tried that kind of protection at the time... Oft went wrong, but the DRM usually does in a minority of cases.
My first reaction.
My second reaction.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be busy the next few weeks.
Thank you, GOG, this game brings back so much memories.
Halleluja! Thank you, GOG!

this game is the reason I'm on gog, waiting, hoping, praying, that it would be released, and stable for win7. I've bought the game, and can't wait to play it :D
It brings back memories for me.

Is this like Anno sort of city building and is Caeasars III and that zeus poseidon thing worth getting? I love city building similar to Anno than sim city. At times sim city is too much

Well, I wouldn't say it's like Anno; while in that series, the emphasis is on providing your citizens with goods, here it's only one aspect to which you may pay attention (for example, employment and available labor pool actually count - it's not like in Anno where you just put down the buildings and they are automatically staffed, and you also don't want to have too many unemployed people).
On the other hand, you don't have to rush to occupy new islands, as the scenarios take place on one piece of land, with the occasional river splitting it.

There is really nothing better city building wise then the impressions game builders range,
They are all basically identical to eachother, with only minor gameplay improving features between them (as they got newer)

As for if they are like Anno "rather then sim city"... It is nothing like anno persay, maybe it is almost closer to the old settlers games, but even that is a stretch. Basically, in all these games, you plop down houses... plop down other buildings. The people come and move into the houses, get a job, and become "walkers" (no, not zombies) then the walkers walk around furfilling the needs of the houses so the houses can increase in size/space. Others get jobs in producing, and create items, which can either be used by the houses or used to build something else.

An example may be- (from Pharaoh, but they are all the same) Clay comes from a clay pit, gets turned into either bricks or pottery the pottery can then either be traded away, or is sent to the bazaar for the people. The bricks can be either traded, or used in monuments.

What mainly sets the games apart is their mechanics,
Caeser 3 MADE all the mechanics for the series, so it is understandably most basic.
Pharaoh made some nice changes ease of use wise, and introduced monument building, such as pyramids and the like. These gave longterm goals even in sandbox and could sometimes be hard to finish.
Zeus had no real monument mechanic, but had a MAJOR religious componant. Gods played a much larger point here, and there was a lot of colour and science. To me, I didnt like Zeus as much, I don't really know why.
Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom was the best game mechanics wise, it was the newest and was easiest to use. It did once more have monuments like Pharaoh, but unfortunatly they were only in the campaign, not sandbox like Pharaoh allowed. But the monuments you built were very nice, The great wall of china, grand Canal, Terracotta Army, mm.

Its a shame that after this they stopped producing and were bought up. Ha, I wish there was a kickstarter for a classic impressions style city builder. None of this 3D crap that ruined the genre. Erm, anyway. As to your question, if you want a game with more MEAT then sim city, sure. But just because it is closer to Anno doesn't mean you can safely compare the two
Didn't really know much about this game, I mean I saw it from time to time at EB games bargain bin. I only played 2 types of city building is Anno 1404 and Sim city. I sort of classify city builders as either of the two. I love this game though and I must say its sort of closer to Anno in my classification.

I took the plunge and bought this for now and maybe go with acropolis next.

Couple of questions though, could I play sandbox in it? and should people move so fast?, is that other kingdom game here on GOG and is caeaser 3 still worth getting?

You can adjust game speed under game options. Personally I think that 60-70% is the best for playing and 100% is just for finishing monuments. You can play sandbox mode by choosing appropriate custom mission. And you can continue playing any map for couple of years after victory.

How do I set the options? I don't see options in the main menu. Please dont tell me I have to open the notepad?

No, when you're already in the game, you have various menus in the upper part of the screen. One of these is Options.
An interesting trivia - Pharaoh game was oficially recommended by Polish Ministry of Education ;-)
