I have a weight problem as well. and I keep promising myself to join a gym but never do, sigh. It's tough, gets even tougher as you age (I'm 70), so don't put it off as I did. Good Luck!

Yes, hard to start something, even more so something physical, at that age... But definitely possible, even for quite significant feats, and that piece is about women running, and they usually have it harder in this. And there's of course this guy. Now gyms may add pressure to do something, since you're paying for it and others see you and can know your schedule and whether you stick to it. But at the same time that adds complications. And, of course, costs. With a decent amount of determination, may well be better off (and always cheaper) to just see what you can do on your own, starting at home.
But while exercising has great health benefits otherwise, it really takes a lot to burn fat in significant amounts, and it tends to make you feel the need to recover that energy, still requiring a lot of control in terms of eating if you do want to lose a noticeable amount. So if that is the goal, that should be the first priority, nutrition, and plain calorie control for the weight itself, of course doubled by being careful to still get the necessary nutrients.
