75-90% off Duke Nukem 1+2, Duke Nukem 3D, Balls of Steel, Manhattan Project.

The Duke. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. The manliest of men, the ultimate male role model. He's been kicking ass on GOG.com for years, but on December 31 2015, Duke has to step out to get more bubble gum. On that day, all Duke Nukem games on GOG.com will be removed from our catalog, but we are in talks with the new rightsholders to bring them back as swiftly as possible. That's why we bid you a farewell for now, Duke: with every Duke Nukem game at 90% off as a bundle, or -75% individually.

The Duke's humble beginnings lie with Duke Nukem 1 + 2, two explosively cool run-n-gun platformers where Duke kicks his very first alien ass, travels in time, and authors "Why I'm SO Great" - a retrospective and autobiography. All in the year 1997, a dystopian near-future.

Years later, on January 29, 1996, our time: Duke makes history. Total meltdown follows the release of Duke Nukem 3D in which we finally see the world through the man's eyes. It's a world of pornography, violence, and candid obscenity. Duke's world. And we are entranced. By the campy risque, and by the unadulterated joy of Duke's violent adventures and one-liners.

Then, for years Duke rides the hype-train: in 1997, we behold his Balls of Steel - a pinball game warmly welcomed for its smooth, realistic physics and plenty of Duke on the side. In the year 2002, Duke goes back to basics in Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, a modern 3D sidescrolling platformer that's nothing if not a fun and mindless pleasure.

This is not where the Duke Nukem legacy ends, but it is where we part ways - for now. So Farewell, Duke! The sale will last until December 31, 10:59 AM GMT. The games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear from your shelf if you're an owner.
Come get some.

Last chance to get Dragonsphere for free.
With the start of the new year, Dragonshpere will no longer be a free game on GOG.com due to new publisher agreements. If you haven't claimed a copy for yourself, make sure to do so by December 31, 22:59 PM GMT - afterwards the game will be regularly priced at $5.99.

If you haven't yet, you can also check out our catalog of gaming freebies, where you'll find classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Biomenace, Ultima IV and ten more!

Flaose: I think that's an overly optimistic view of the situation, to be honest. I wouldn't expect Gearbox to sign on with GOG.com anytime soon, if ever.
After Bethesda?
avatar
PimPamPet: First Descent, now Duke? Hopefully this trend doesn't continue going forward...
avatar
Marioface5: Why is this the first time I'm hearing about Descent being removed? Why was there no news post about it?
Because the Descent series' removal (which didn't affect the Freespace games...) was last minute, and they didn't have time or permission to do a "last call" discount like this. They might well have been barred from even mentioning at all that the games were being removed until after it had happened. Legal hocus-pocus and all.

InfraSuperman: It's the Atomic Edition, meaning it "only" contains the expansion made by the original developers, the Plutonium Pak.

I think the third-party expansions by Sunstorm Interactive, "Duke it out in D.C." and "Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach", are only available in the "Megaton Edition" remaster on Steam.

NuffCatnip: Ah, okay, thanks for the confirmation. :D
At any rate, I'd still say that it's still very much worth it at this price.
Damn this news sucks I hope we get them back soon and maybe gearbox's games as well.

Question is we all know they are being taken down from steam and here and so on but what about 3D Relms site? they had the 32 game bundle with all the dukes we had in DRM Free form like GOG, so do they get to keep the games up as well???

https://3drealms.com/catalog/

they posted no news about it.
Hopefully Duke makes his comeback asap. I finally was able to basically steal Balls of steel for 0.59. Fare thee well, Duke.
I think GOG team do more that enough, because they:

1) Informed us before remove games from catalog
2) Give this fantastic sale (if someone have Atomic edition you can complete all collection for just 1,7$)

PS.
I will be more happy if they start selling more games from 1C that is hard to get i.e. Ascension to the Throne: Valkyrie .

I usually don't buy just because sale with the off chance of forever gone from the shop if very unsure if I play it at all. But sale + series completion + hey, its the duke... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85cL1HisrNc :D

Yeah, bought them in the minute I saw the announcement. ^^
Bought them on Steam too apparently, dont recall buying them there though. :/

I understand that sometimes they can't offer a last-chance discount. What I find odd is that didn't bother making a front-page announcement to let everyone know that the games had been removed at all. A forum thread was made here but that doesn't help people who don't check the forums regularly. Heck, I do check the forums regularly and I never saw that thread before. I guess it's not really a big deal, but I still think that GOG should be keeping everyone updated with things like this instead of hiding the news in a forum thread.

Starmaker: This. Watching recent attitudes toward pricing, I can't even say with any certainty that the 0.00 price tag helped to popularize the game in any measurable manner: if anything, free as in beer games are perceived to be worse than they really are (e.g. Heroine's Quest).

Pica-Ludica: [rant]
Are people really dismissing Heroine Quest on the assumption that it must be terrible because it's free? REALLY? What the bloody hell. The game is as close as we could get to a new Quest for Glory game, it's an amazing tribute to the series. People pre-order AAA games and get burned every single time, yet are unwilling to give a brilliant free game a chance? That's beyond ludicrous. I officially don't understand humankind in its current state.
[/rant]

... I may need to rant more. *grumpf*
I don't think so; the game has good reception on Steam and a few hundred votes on the GOG wishlist, and I don't recall forumites here suggesting it is a bad game because it's free (aside from maybe some people who *only* have salty things to say ;). I think people were irritated GOG didn't bring the game here as a freebie, but I still think it could show up at some point, perhaps next Christmas.

willbeonekenobi: EA at this point is much better than konami.
avatar
Fesin: Well yeah, big fucking deal. Everybody is better than Konami. Getting punched in the face is better than getting castrated - but just because I'd like to keep my balls, doesn't mean I like getting punched in the face.

EA still sucks, even if Konami sucks more.

Hey speaking of the 3D Realms anthology... does it contain the Megaton edition of Duke Nukem 3D? Just curious

No.

BillyMaysFan59: It can't hurt to vote, even though this happening would be unlikely:

Hell. I voted. Anything that helps GOG acquire more games :D
