75-90% off Duke Nukem 1+2, Duke Nukem 3D, Balls of Steel, Manhattan Project.

The Duke. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. The manliest of men, the ultimate male role model. He's been kicking ass on GOG.com for years, but on December 31 2015, Duke has to step out to get more bubble gum. On that day, all Duke Nukem games on GOG.com will be removed from our catalog, but we are in talks with the new rightsholders to bring them back as swiftly as possible. That's why we bid you a <span class="bold">farewell for now, Duke</span>: with every Duke Nukem game at 90% off as a bundle, or -75% individually.

The Duke's humble beginnings lie with Duke Nukem 1 + 2, two explosively cool run-n-gun platformers where Duke kicks his very first alien ass, travels in time, and authors "Why I'm SO Great" - a retrospective and autobiography. All in the year 1997, a dystopian near-future.

Years later, on January 29, 1996, our time: Duke makes history. Total meltdown follows the release of Duke Nukem 3D in which we finally see the world through the man's eyes. It's a world of pornography, violence, and candid obscenity. Duke's world. And we are entranced. By the campy risque, and by the unadulterated joy of Duke's violent adventures and one-liners.

Then, for years Duke rides the hype-train: in 1997, we behold his Balls of Steel - a pinball game warmly welcomed for its smooth, realistic physics and plenty of Duke on the side. In the year 2002, Duke goes back to basics in Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, a modern 3D sidescrolling platformer that's nothing if not a fun and mindless pleasure.

This is not where the Duke Nukem legacy ends, but it is where we part ways - for now. So <span class="bold">Farewell, Duke</span>! The sale will last until December 31, 10:59 AM GMT. The games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear from your shelf if you're an owner.
Come get some.

Last chance to get Dragonsphere for free.
With the start of the new year, Dragonshpere will no longer be a free game on GOG.com due to new publisher agreements. If you haven't claimed a copy for yourself, make sure to do so by December 31, 22:59 PM GMT - afterwards the game will be regularly priced at $5.99.

If you haven't yet, you can also check out our catalog of gaming freebies, where you'll find classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Biomenace, Ultima IV and ten more!

SLP2000: Great news, because that means Gearbox should be soon on board. And that means at least Homeworld, and maybe some more.
Is this true? Could Homeworld show up on GOG?
I will resist the strong urge I have to give Gearbox a hearty, expletive response, but that "farewell for now" plus the fact Bethesda is here means I will wait to see if there is actually some decency left within the company.
avatar
igrok: That's not the right question. The right question is why such a good game was free in the first place. Dragonsphere certainly deserves the price tag of 5.99.
avatar
Starmaker: This. Watching recent attitudes toward pricing, I can't even say with any certainty that the 0.00 price tag helped to popularize the game in any measurable manner: if anything, free as in beer games are perceived to be worse than they really are (e.g. Heroine's Quest).
[rant]
Are people really dismissing Heroine Quest on the assumption that it must be terrible because it's free? REALLY? What the bloody hell. The game is as close as we could get to a new Quest for Glory game, it's an amazing tribute to the series. People pre-order AAA games and get burned every single time, yet are unwilling to give a brilliant free game a chance? That's beyond ludicrous. I officially don't understand humankind in its current state.
[/rant]

... I may need to rant more. *grumpf*
If Gearbox accepts to release DKs on GOG, do you think Gearbox will replace Atomic Edition with Megaton Edition?
Luckly for me i already have most of Duke games, i just miss Manhattan Project. Maybe i buy it. But the new change with dolar make me think. I just hope Duke come back soon.
Already had Duke 3d, but going ahead and getting all of them to redeem the rest and give away the game later.

Kindly go piss up a rope Gearbox.

IwubCheeze: Ummmmmm, GOG already stated that they were currently negotiating with the new rights holders. Isn't it a little too early to be spewing venom, bile and hate at Gearbox at this time?

ShadowAngel.207: It's never too early to spew venom, bile and hate at one of the worst developer that sadly still exists today. Gearbox was and always will be horrendous and Randy Pitchford is one of the biggest assholes in the industry.
They continue to fuck up franchises like Homeworld now.
Fuck up Homeworld how, exactly? Remastered was released to critical acclaim, both by the majority of the press and players.

It's just that a while back, people were frothing at the mouth over Bethesda Softworks business practices and how they would never come here and how they were married with Steam, yet look how that turned out.

Or how about Interplay where they raised their prices. The GOG community rallies on the forum digital pitchforks in hand demanding Interplay we let us castrate them and burn their mothers alive. Yet, they have proven they are willing to give deep discounts (I'm refering to the Interplay bundle in the Fall promo).

How about when Nordic pulled their catalog because of the regional pricing fiasco. Once again, the GOG community rallies and demand Nordic be stuffed into iron maidens while we rock them about just cos vindictiveness is what we do best.

The hate on EA dates back to the stone age where our great great grand daddies bitched and moaned about Madden NFL 1,000,000BC being the same game as Madden NFL 1,000,001BC except the footballrockballwhateverball thingy having 3 shades of grey instead of 2. But EA is still here and gave us a free copy of Dungeon Keeper a while back.

I have to admit, I haven't been keeping up on what Gearbox is doing but you'd think the community would have learned something by now. Even if a company does do a somewhat dickish move, they are capable of turning around. I'm going to wait and see how GOG handles the situation. For the rest of you, the torture bonds are hanging on the wall just over there. I've also left Randy Pitchford's address there for your convenience.........

Gearbox: We fucked up Duke Nukem Forever, we fucked up Aliens: Colonial Marines. Now we're going to fuck up the original Duke Nukem. But hey, at least we're still better than Konami.
I can`t let this lot go. Buying the lot and saving to disc just in case Gearbox does something like force GOG to cease and desist even disallowing people to have it in their library.

DarthCruciare: we fucked up Aliens: Colonial Marines.
They didn't fuck it up, it was a company called 'Timegate Studios'.

EA at this point is much better than konami.
Duke Nukem 3D was the first game I've bought when I joined GOG in April 2012. It's sad to see it go now.
Thanks for the advanced warning. Even though they're not genres I typically play at 59¢ each I'm willing to take a chance

nightcraw1er.488: And they have beamdog here
You have me at a loss, what is the specific point about Beamdog?
we haven't had the final cut of vh
Thank you for the reminder, wasn't the Final Cut supposed to be released back September?

That a rather apropos clip, but for some reason I though it was going to be this song instead...
I'm all outta gum : (

Supposed to. Then, it got delayed twice and was eventually released on Steam in November. No word so far about when it will be released here, other than "later".
