75-90% off Duke Nukem 1+2, Duke Nukem 3D, Balls of Steel, Manhattan Project.

The Duke. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. The manliest of men, the ultimate male role model. He's been kicking ass on GOG.com for years, but on December 31 2015, Duke has to step out to get more bubble gum. On that day, all Duke Nukem games on GOG.com will be removed from our catalog, but we are in talks with the new rightsholders to bring them back as swiftly as possible. That's why we bid you a farewell for now, Duke: with every Duke Nukem game at 90% off as a bundle, or -75% individually.

The Duke's humble beginnings lie with Duke Nukem 1 + 2, two explosively cool run-n-gun platformers where Duke kicks his very first alien ass, travels in time, and authors "Why I'm SO Great" - a retrospective and autobiography. All in the year 1997, a dystopian near-future.

Years later, on January 29, 1996, our time: Duke makes history. Total meltdown follows the release of Duke Nukem 3D in which we finally see the world through the man's eyes. It's a world of pornography, violence, and candid obscenity. Duke's world. And we are entranced. By the campy risque, and by the unadulterated joy of Duke's violent adventures and one-liners.

Then, for years Duke rides the hype-train: in 1997, we behold his Balls of Steel - a pinball game warmly welcomed for its smooth, realistic physics and plenty of Duke on the side. In the year 2002, Duke goes back to basics in Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, a modern 3D sidescrolling platformer that's nothing if not a fun and mindless pleasure.

This is not where the Duke Nukem legacy ends, but it is where we part ways - for now. So Farewell, Duke! The sale will last until December 31, 10:59 AM GMT. The games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear from your shelf if you're an owner.
Come get some.

Last chance to get Dragonsphere for free.
With the start of the new year, Dragonshpere will no longer be a free game on GOG.com due to new publisher agreements. If you haven't claimed a copy for yourself, make sure to do so by December 31, 22:59 PM GMT - afterwards the game will be regularly priced at $5.99.

If you haven't yet, you can also check out our catalog of gaming freebies, where you'll find classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Biomenace, Ultima IV and ten more!

NuffCatnip: Wow, so Gearbox really does want to continue killing franchises.
That thing they call a game Alien: Colonial Marines was a piece of crap and did nothing good for the Alien franchise then theyve killed the Duke Nukem franchise and now they are kicking its corpse.
Give them some time and a couple more Borderlands sequels and theyll kill that franchise as well.
Gearbox didn't make the game. They focused on Borderlands while letting other studios do the work.

"The game drew additional controversy due to the fact that much of the game's development was not by Gearbox Software, but was outsourced to other developers in order to compensate for mismanagement on behalf of Gearbox. While Sega initially denied that any such outsourcing occurred, sources claimed that developers Demiurge Studios and Nerve Software were responsible for the game's downloadable content, while TimeGate Studios was responsible for the majority of the game's campaign, and were unable to create the planned Beta version on schedule despite several delays. This caused the game to be rushed through redesigns, certification and shipping, despite being in a largely unfinished state.

The suit, filed in April 2013 by Roger Damion Perrine and John Locke on behalf of a class, claimed that Gearbox and Sega falsely advertised Aliens: Colonial Marines by showing demos at trade shows like PAX and E3 that were not ultimately accurate representations of the final product. Sega has suggested settling the lawsuit from their part and agreed to pay 1.25 million dollars."

DarthCruciare: we fucked up Aliens: Colonial Marines.
avatar
willbeonekenobi: They didn't fuck it up, it was a company called 'Timegate Studios'.
Because Gearbox mismanaged the project and decided to outsource it to Timegate and others instead of doing it themselves. Ultimately, they were responsible.
Supposedly, they also used a chunk of A:CM's budget for the development of Borderlands 2.

shmerl: Is it owned by Gearbox?
Yes.
avatar
Grargar: was eventually released on Steam in November. No word so far about when it will be released here, other than "later".
Thanks for the information. Sounds like they're dragging their feet after getting people, including myself, to purchase the trilogy with the promise of the Final Cut as a free upgrade...

shmerl: Is it owned by Gearbox?

Grargar: Yes.
I see. They also refused to release Homeworld Remastered on GOG. Looks like they have some DRM obsession issues. Why would they remove a game which was already sold here through? Don't they want more money?

It is now. 3D Realms sold the rights.

Legal stuff, I'd guess. The games will also be removed from Steam.

Ah, that makes more sense (that they'd remove it in such case).

Good luck getting it back from filthy Gearbox.

Grargar: Published, not owned. You'll also notice Retroism as the publisher, which is a collaboration between Night Dive and Tommo (in addition, all the games that are published by Retroism here used to be published by Tommo). The only series that Night Dive really owns is System Shock. All the rest of the games shown as published by them on Steam, as well those that they show on their site aren't owned by them; they merely act as intermediaries for Tommo and the other license-holders.
Thanks! I wasn't aware of that, might explain why some of ND games didn't turn up on GOG.

Okay, but even if they are the publisher and not the developer, they still had a say in the games development, but they didnt care enough to deliver a good or at least mediocre game.

...all I wanted was a playable Alien game. :/
Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance.

willbeonekenobi: EA at this point is much better than konami.
Well yeah, big fucking deal. Everybody is better than Konami. Getting punched in the face is better than getting castrated - but just because I'd like to keep my balls, doesn't mean I like getting punched in the face.

EA still sucks, even if Konami sucks more.

No, that's not-- ...You don't light-- [sighs] You're doing it all wrong!
