Latest update, December 31st, 2017

So, 2013 will be soon gone, and we had quite a few complaints about "lack of classic releases". Let's see what GOG released this year then, shall we?

In 2013, GOG released 183 titles (not including DLCs). First release was Cultures 1+2 on January 8th, and last release was on [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_teslagrad]December 13th. Out of the 183 titles, 52 (28%) were day 1 releases, with Battle Worlds: Kronos and Democracy 3 just missing out on that list (released on day 2).
We also had 45 (25%) pre-2K games released, with Avernum: The Complete Saga barely missing the mark (Original release January 1st, 2000), while the total number of games ten years old or more is 59 (32%), with Cultures 3+4 being released here 4 months before they became 10 years old.

Compared with 2012, GOG released 3 pre-2K less (45 to 48), 5 10+ years old less (59 to 64), but 28 more day 1 releases (52 to 24) and 23 more games (183 to 160).

And a quick sum of the GOG years so far

2008 had 65 releases, 29 (45%) of which were pre-2K ones.
2009 had 114 releases, 47 (41%) of which were pre-2K ones.
2010 had 79 releases, 35 (44%) of which were pre-2K ones, and 36 (46%) being 10+ years old.(Baldur's Gare 2: Complete being 10+ years old, but not pre-2K)
2011 had 85 releases, 48 (56%) of which were pre-2K ones, 57 (67%) being 10+ years old, and 1 (1%) day one release (The Witcher 2 - Assassins of Kings)
2012 had 160 releases, 48 (30%) of which were pre-2K ones, 64 (40%) being 10+ years old, and 24 (15%) being day one releases.
2013 had 183 releases, 45 (25%) of which were pre-2K ones, 59 (32%) being 10+ years old, and 52 (28%) being day one releases.

Total (so far) of 686 releases, 252 (37%) of which were pre-2K ones, 281 (41%) being 10+ years old on release, and 77 (11%) being day one releases.

Summer sale came and left, time for an update.

Compared to the 07/12-06/13 period, in the last 12 months GOG released 21 more games, 28 more Day 1 releases, 9 fewer pre-2K ones, and 19 fewer 10+ years old.

July 1st, 2008 till June 30th, 2009
GOG Released 128 games. Out of those, 58 (~45%) were pre-2K ones.
July 1st, 2009 till June 30th, 2010
GOG Released 101 games. Out of those, 42 (~42%) were pre-2K ones.
July 1st, 2010 till June 30th, 2011
GOG Released 71 games. Out of those, 1 (~1.5%) were Day 1 games, 34 (~48%) were pre-2K ones, and 39 (~55%) were 10+ years old.
July 1st, 2011 till June 30th, 2012
GOG Released 116 games. Out of those, 5 (~4%) were Day 1 games, 52 (~45%) were pre-2K ones, and 66 (~57%) were 10+ years old.
July 1st, 2012 till June 30th, 2013
GOG Released 171 games. Out of those, 39 (~23%) were Day 1 games, 46 (~27%) were pre-2K ones, and 64 (~37%) were 10+ years old.
July 1st, 2013 till June 30th, 2014
GOG Released 192 games. Out of those, 67 (~35%) were Day 1 games, 37 (~19%) were pre-2K ones, and 45 (~23%) were 10+ years old.

Wait, are the pre-2k and 10+ year old numbers overlapping or not? That makes a big difference.

I suspect you're mocking those people who ask that, but remember as a business GOG has to release games people will buy. :-P And 20,000 votes here is not a small number.

EDIT: I've bugged GOG numerous times for more Sierra games, for example. The Laura Bows, Conquests, etc. Sunlight Games will be releasing the original Gold Rush! and a remake shortly, would love to see it show up here.

I think they are i.e. each pre 2k game is also 10+ old game. So it seems concerning JMich xls

We can make fun of ourselves. :) As for other Sierra games, Activision seems to have lost interest in GOG, sadly.

Either way the data shows that GOG might be releasing more new games and indies but the number of classics have stayed roughly the same.

Another thing the data doesn't really cover are games like Amnesia, Penumbra, etc that are less than 10 years old but I guess they're lumped in with the day one releases?

2000 is also getting further and further in the past. A 1999 game was only nine years old in 2008, but today it's fifteen years old. Give it another few years and "pre-2010" will qualify as an oldie, with plenty of adults looking for these childhood nostalgia properties (their childhood, not our's).

I'd like to have numbers about oldies that vanished from this catalogue over the years as well.

If this goes on and the big companies get further interested in the old licenses (like Bethesda atm), we will see more stuff vanishing from here und the balance may tip further towards new indie releases. :/
