"Historic" Update

Howdy, Colossal Cavers!

Over 300,000,000 years ago, water started tricking through some limestone, eventually carving what is currently known to be the longest known, connected cave system on the planet: Mammoth Cave, in Kentucky, USA.

Did you know that the woman who made this discovery was a tiny programming caver, named Patricia Crowther? This tiny, but colossal discovery is known as being the speleological equivalent of summiting Mount Everest, for the first time.

Did you know that her husband, Will Crowther, also a programming caver, had an integral role in programming the packet switching between the first 4 connected “routers” (Interface Message Processors) making up the ARPANET (the precursor to today’s internet)? Will played a pivotal role in the invention of the Internet. Yes, that internet.

Did you know that Will Crowther built the first text-adventure game around muddy little maps he’d made with his wife? Inspired by 60’s style AI (known as ELIZA) and made as a bonding exercise with his young daughters, ADVENT (as it was known at the time) would be one of the first viral games, as it spread across the ARPANET, shutting down entire departments for weeks at a time, as people were so entranced with the depth, light whimsy, and whisps of Dungeons & Dragons style fantasy.

There is so much more to this story. And you can learn all about it, in today’s update!

Behind the scenes, fanciful little elves are endlessly hard at work polishing the experience of playing and navigating Colossal Cave. The most recent addition is that of a dilapidated, fuzzy, old television set. We’ve added some fun and informative goodies to this TV, like a look back at the history of ADVENT and Colossal Cave. We’ve included a fully realized documentary to the game, narrated by Roberta Williams. We’ve set it up for more programs in the future. Grab a TV dinner and stay tuned!

While we’re thrilled to include this little nugget of history directly to the game, for ease of access, we’ve also added it to YouTube, for those who may prefer to watch it, online.

https://youtu.be/VJhxVTvyxIA

Take a historic plunge into the darkness. Don’t forget your lamp!

Also, in this update:

• Fix to Fee-Fie-Foe-Foo (FFFF) not causing eggs to show up on map when used in Giant Room.
• Fix to maze hint popping up at higher frequency than intended.
• Updates to Russian Localization.
• Removed unused pickaxe hotspot in Y2 mirror room.

An example of this, Ammo will fluxuate in higher numbers where items like documents and special usable items will not be stocked in large numbers. This will reduce the exploiting of market quantities, and may take some time for the game to balance out exisiting saves in progress.
Markets that currently have large quantities due to player interaction, or event generation will slowly adjust over time as you play and balance down to their max limits via the event system.

New Buildings - 0.45x0702a

The docking was a success!

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I've released an update, but there's a reason for that. And now I will tell you everything in order.

The main part of this update is the buildings. It took me a while to implement the possibility to create a second+ floor. Yes, now you can build a ship upwards and new buildings such as stairs are added to help you move around the ship. I spent quite a bit of time reworking the ship's hermetic system and now every room that has all walls and ceilings will be hermetically sealed!

The wall models have been redesigned a bit.

Half floor/roof buildings have been added.
For those who like to look out the windows there is also a gift. A window floor/roof has been added, as well as panoramic windows.

Tired of doors? Now you can make a hatch in the roof.

Now you can create unique ships, I will definitely be adding more building types in the future and most likely painting or something like that will be added!

If you like building, but grind is not your thing, then let me make you happy:
Creative Mode has been added to the game! No hunger/oxygen/health spending. Everything costs 0.

For the fans of the decor ship, for a long time you could only put flowers and similar décor on the floor, but now you can put them on tables and similar surfaces!

I hope my short story has given you the point of this update. And now I will tell you about some of the fixes:

List of changes:
• Black boxes are now outlined, making them visible
• Fixed a bug related to keeping the ship hermetic sealed
• Fixed a bug that caused some buildings to disappear
• Fixed a bug that caused settings to open in the main menu
• Optimized inventory work
• Fixed save compatibility bug of previous versions
• Localization fixes
• Fixed missing of light in the ship
• Assignment of inventory buttons on the keyboard was added
• Fixed wall appearing in emptiness bug
• F2 bug fixed

And many other minor fixes.

I hope you enjoy this update. Thank you all for continuing to keep an eye on the project, I have many more updates in the pipeline and I will implement them and keep you happy with the content.

I'm also waiting for you on the Discord server!

Drones follow the construction queue
Previously, the construction drones liked to take care of the construction site closest to them, and in the process it could also happen that they overlooked some construction orders and left them unfinished.

Gaia Powers are renamed as Functions
We have also renamed the Inventory to Items and the Multi tools are now simply called Tools. This makes a lot of things easier and more understandable.

UI hiding for Trade Panel
To leave you more visual space to think about the trades you are making we hide the surrounding user interface while you're in this panel.

Hi-Tech Constructs in Buildmenu
In this new category you will find more buildings in the future as well as the gaian constructs which we also wanted to rebrand as high tech buildings with strategic functions. We also adjusted the building descriptions to make them sound less mythical.

Examination of ruins
Now you can also unlock ruins by exploring them. This will allow you to build these special technological buildings as soon as you have enough artifacts.

Changelog from steam:
Balancing Update + Run-Slide
- You can now perform a running slide when you press the Crouch key while sprinting, which ends in crouching stance. You can basically sprint towards a cover and then press Crouch to quickly get behind it.
- NPCs will now heal themselves (with a little animation) AFTER they decide that there is no more threat around them. They will not do this during combat. This helps preventing friendly NPCs from slowly dying from bleeding.
- Each NPC will now have an intrinsic shooter skill stat. This stat determines how well they lead the aim at a moving target. The higher the NPC's tier, the higher chance they have good aiming skill.
- Added Drop and Drop All button to the menu when you right-click an item, for quickly discarding them from the backpack. They will drop onto the ground.
- Added separate mouselook rotation speed setting, which is independent of the Q/E or mouse wheel camera rotation speed.
- Improved sprint handling. You can now cancel the sprint by aiming down sight, and while aiming down sight, you can sprint to stop aiming.
- Fixed the aiming inaccuracy for various shotguns
- Stashes will now prepopulate their contents when you first enter the map. No more easy save scumming, and no more losing a good roll from loading previous save.
- Increased the height of dive-roll motion so that you can cross the same kind of gap as jumps.
- Alkevier will stop accepting your potatoes as seeds (since he already has potato plants growing), and will only take one seed per stack when you turn in seeds, to avoid accidentally selling everything to him.
- Fixed a bug with rolling/jumping spending too much stamina.
- Balanced the amount of XP you get from traveling to areas. You will get a big boost of XP when you travel to a place you haven't been to before, but when you go to somewhere you have been to before, you'll barely get anything.
