Acting in GOG's defense, there's nothing they can do about the Far Cry 2 tape bugs, these exist dating back to 3 years ago or even more, there are countless threads about this on google and Steam for the matter. What makes you think that if GOG contacts Ubi they will magically fix the game?
Ubi has moved on to more newer projects. Unless some 3rd party fix happens you're stick with the bugs.

NOTE! REMOVED FILE Battle Chess Special Edition, downloadables, manuals (battle_chess_manuals.zip; Wed, 23 Jul 2008 04:00:00 GMT; 2,788,972)
NOTE! ADDED FILE Battle Chess Special Edition, downloadables, Battle Chess manual (battle_chess_manual.zip; Fri, 29 May 2015 09:37:35 GMT; 4,213,921)
NOTE! ADDED FILE Battle Chess Special Edition, downloadables, Battle Chess reference card (battle_chess_reference_card.zip; Fri, 29 May 2015 09:37:57 GMT; 519,323)
NOTE! ADDED FILE Battle Chess Special Edition, downloadables, Battle Chess 4000 manual (battle_chess_4000_manual.zip; Fri, 29 May 2015 09:37:05 GMT; 2,337,193)
NOTE! ADDED FILE Battle Chess Special Edition, downloadables, Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess manual (battle_chess_2_manual.zip; Fri, 29 May 2015 09:36:49 GMT; 525,951)
[No changelog, no flag. As far as I can see, the changes are:
- Battle Chess reference card added (for some reason, this is listed on the game page as "Battle Chess II reference card"; Judas is on holiday, so probably will not be fixed)
- Manuals split from one zip into three zips, one per unbundled game (nice)
- Battle Chess manual changed from exe+dat to pdf
- Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess manual changed from txt to pdf
- Battle Chess 4000 manual did not change
- Collectors will want to keep the old manuals zip file alongside the new ones]
Like tons of other games of the same series now Battle Chess can boast a GOG exclusive feature that all other stores envy them: random folder names.
Battle Chess -> battle_chess
Battle Chess 4000 -> battle_chess_4000
Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess -> chinese_chess
I would open a ticket to the support, but it won't get fixed anyway.

P.S. I know about the gog.com Far Cry 2 Forum. If you dive into the problems discussed there, you won't have time to play the game at all. The Jackal Tape problem is not covered as far as I could see.

Shifting the responsibility onto the users is unprofessional and pretty shitty support.

I am sure GOG reports issues to devs.
But FarCry 2?
The game is 7 (seven) years old. Probably got it's last patch like 6 years ago. It is what it is.

Makes me wonder if GOG ever tried to get Telltale Games to fix the known bug of Sybil being invisible in Episode 1 of Sam & Max Save the Worldhas.

Same issue with Far Cry 1: Version 1.40 made tents and garbage 'barracks' transparent for the enemy (like thick foliage, iirc), so you have to use the HUD to locate enemies in them from a far distance (which is especially annoying in the first level and the level Pier, if I remember correct).

When I contacted GOG support about a problem they first told me to contact the developer. When the developer didn't answer to me I got back to GOG support and asked them to contact the developer from their side since they don't seem to answer to users.
The reply I got was that GOG doesn't speak for the developer. I replied that I didn't ask GOG support to speak for the developer but to contact them and suggested that if the support representative doesn't have contact information for the developer that he should escalate the ticket higher up in the support chain.
I have not received any further reply from GOG support.
Seriously, some people who work on GOG support should be fired. GOG support used to be really good but it has been constantly going downhill for a while.

I believe that the people that works on GOG support say what they are told/allowed to. The issue is always in the higher rank. We wouldn't have this GOG crisis these days/months/years if it wasn't for the GOG higher ups that clearly have shown they don't care for their users experience, just their money.

From the Steam Forums and my nightmares: "The Jackal tapes bug was introduced with the 1.03 patch. Setting Steam to not automatically update will just pause the download making it impossible to not get the patched version."

Thank you very much for confirming my suspicion. I will test the savegame bug of the DLC and report back.

I only know this version and the bug really sucks because you are forced to use sniper tactics in most situations. :/
The first time I saw a machete lying around and offered as a weapon I thought it's a joke because there's no way to use it without being killed.
