Hopefully this is a suitable place for this question.
Recently started playing Civilization 4 again. Since last time I've upgraded Linux Mint 17.1 to Linux Mint 18.2. Am running the game through PlayOnLinux with Wine version 2.0.1. It's not the GOG version of the game, but an ancient version. When playing this game, I like to have the browser and music in one workspace, and the game in the other, then switch between them with Ctrl+Alt+Arrow left/right now and again, to check out forums, news, change music, and suchlike. Then switch back. The problem is that when I do this, the game seems to re-draw or something, and the in-game window I have with various events (wonders, techs, combat, etc) get removed, so I need to re-enable it, and drag it into place.
Got word that Wine 3.0 is out, so I tried to install that version and run it, but the behaviour is the same. Tried to downgrade to 1.6.2, and then it works, but this version sadly has some sound issues from time to time, especially if launching the game with something already playing (music or youtube - I like to listen to relaxing videos sometimes).
Do you guys know if there is a way to solve this? Presumably it would be best to use 2.0.1 or 3.0, but while able to switch workspaces without the game hanging for a few seconds and the events log getting disabled.
The game itself runs rock solid, so that's not an issue, but I would like to be able to switch workspaces without a hitch (the game also gets minimised for some reason).
Edit: Attached a picture. Can some of these settings help things along? Currently have it set to version 3.0.
