Does spiders in games really bother people that badly? I mean I hate real spiders, I hate those mother fuckers but they don't bother me in games.

Poison.
So we've got quite a sale going on today!

Anyone have details on these game (series?

-Spellforce
-Heroes of Might & Magic
-Might & Magic
-Gothic
-Risen
-Divinity

I think these are prime suspects for spider hijinks, but all I can remember is that maybe the original Gothic had some and I think I ran into not-so disturbing ones in the original Divine Divinity, but other than that, I don't know. Any help would be appreciated!
There are some giant insects and scorpions in Risen. Risen 2 features large Tomb Spiders. In Might and Magic there are some cartoony spiders with few sprites in both parts of the World of Xeen, only one dungeon with spiders (tutorial area) in VII, and lots of them in X. That's what I played and what I can confirm.
Thanks very much, if it sounds good, I'll add Risen to the No Spiders category with a note that giant insects feature and add the rest as described. Thanks much!
Thank you very much for doing this lists! Actually, I'm not afraid of spiders, but my wife do, so, when I chose some game to play with her it's really important to know if there any spiders in it.
nevermind

I think Don't Starve should be moved to the cartoony category, from what I've seen anyway.

The Witcher 2 has endregas, which are a mixture of lizards and spiders. Only the queen looks kind of looks like a spider. Not realistic at all, more lizard looking.

Divinity: Original Sin has nasty spiders. Hopefully someone mods them out with the modkit.

sauvignon1: Wait, I thought this thread would be like a safe haven from real world spiders. Bitch has been tracking me for three days, need to lay low...OH SHI-
I'm not an arachnophobe but that pic scared the shit out of me.
You know what game has spiders that make you quake in your boots when you first come across them ?

Disciples 2 ...
I finished Betrayer yesterday and there are spider like creatures. They only have six legs but even the patch notes calls them: "Spider-like creatures that swarm and spit harmful venom."
The attached picture shows a dead small one.

One a seperate issue. There is a game that has a spider-like creature but even naming the game is a pretty big spoiler. I've been thinking about it a bit and here's the title in rotl13 Oebguref: N Gnyr bs Gjb Fbaf.
Do yourself a favor and only decode the title if you stab your eyes or something after seeing a not real spider-like creature. You don't want to spoil this game for you.

He. I love spiders, but I understand they might creep out some people. So let's add some more gog games to the list...

- Divinity, Original Sin : Spider(s?). I didn't play the game (yet), but the trailer shows a very big and icky giant spider

- Ghost master : One spider, but could be considered cartoony. One of the ghost you have from the start is a giant spider, specialist of the "creepy crawly" scare. She is cartoony, like the rest of the game, but she is specifically used to attack arachnophobe NPCs by sending crawling swarms of smaller spiders everywhere, so even if it's all in good humor, that might be somewhat problematic for you. You're not forced to use her in a mission, but she is one of your best starting frighteners, and you'll see her everytime you go to the selection screen or in your headquarters.

- Dungeon keeper : Spiders, badly drawn/cartoony. One of the first monsters you can use in the game.

Edit : some more in

Age of Wonder 3 : Hairy spiders, spiny spiders, icky spiders, big spiders, small spiders... You name it, they have it!

I don't remember if AOW1 and 2 had spiders, but the dark elves faction had driders (spider women). Smallish (it's a strategy game with small sprites), but icky.

Dust an Elysian Tail : Big, multi-legged cristal creatures. But cartoony, and they remind me more of ants, actually.

Spider-free : The Banner Saga. It's a fantasy game, but the only opponents are humans, giants and the humanoid dredges.

Defender's quest : I don't remember and spider on that game either. Many icky worms/snakes, but that's another phobia.

Long live the queen : spiderfree. Death by spider is one of the few things that you won't have to worry about in this game (but pretty much anything else can and will kill you). Unless it's hidden in one of the alternate path, but the game is mostly text-based anyway, so they wouldn't SHOW it to you.

King of Dragon Pass : I don't remember any spider in the game (although the trolls are arthopods worshippers, so some artworks involving them might show a big quantity of various creepy-crawlies. And some Chaos monsters have a very disturbing look). But there is one spectacular encounter with queen Cragspider, a frightening troll-spider hybrid.
No movement if it's what bugs you, though. KODP is all text and motionless (gorgeous) pictures.

Jagged alliance 2 has the creepy Crepitus monster, but they are more insects/ticks from hell than spiders. And they can be turned off by choosing "realistic" mode. JA1 has no fantasy element. Both games take place under the tropics, though, so they might have a (normal, inactive) spider on some splash screens, but none that I remember.

Hi there. I'm new here. I accidentally came upon this thread and found it to be REALLY useful and thought we shouldn't let it die. So I'm wondering, what's the situation in Shadow of Mordor? I know there're small eight legged ones which you need to kill 5 of them for a mission. Besides that, are there any? We really want to play that game.
Hey guys, just checking in on this thread to see if there were any new posts after it died off.

I have updated the list accordingly, with the exception of Dotur's spoiler game, which you can see up above. I'm unaware of where I should add it in the list and what I should do about it. It's my opinion that if you're afraid enough of spiders to not play a game if there's a potential of seeing one, you're not going to care one bit about spoilers, but there's also the problem of which list that game should go under. Anyone willing to clarify?

Also, a special note: Jagged Alliance 2 is under the workaround category since you don't have to see them.

Since we're now in the midst of another huge sale, anyone want to contribute knowledge about the games for sale? I did a couple of pieces of feedback that this was helpful in the interim, so should you decide to contribute to the thread, I think will be people will be grateful to you! For instance, I'm pretty sure none of the games in the indie puzzlers bundle today have spiders (or at least none that would scare most people) but I can't be sure because I haven't played them. Anyone want to comment on that?

Also, does anyone know if a spider-less mod for Divinity: Original Sin has appeared, since it's a pretty popular game? As well, can anyone answer egosavar's question about Shadow of Mordor? And upcoming games, anyone seen a trailer that shows spiders in it so we're aware that it's possible the finished game will have it too?

Thanks for any help given, as always!
I'm playing Might and Magic II at the moment and there are some spiders in it. Sometimes (when they are the first monster in the group), you will also get a pixelated picture of them. Not very realistic or scary, but still a spider.
