Tarm: Bought. I can't get my second hand NES working right so hell with it. I can't get it working after some more replacement parts I now have a backup for some of the essential games.

snowkatt: how the hell did you buy it ?

Apparently the rumors about thepiratebay are true.

Preorder. That's why I said backup. I have until 11th (?) November to get my NES working. If I do get my NES working (Got new parts the other day I haven't installed yet.) I still will have a small portable one for some fun when not at home. :)

What did you try to do with your real NES? Replace the pin connector? I wouldn't recommend that as you can usually always get an original pin connector working unless utterly destroyed.

Bought a used NES they swore had a replaced pin connector and was working. Didn't work even after I've cleaned it. Even had a friend with a working NES try my games and they worked alright. So now I've bought a new pin connector that I'll try it with.

Ouch, yeah those connector replacements are usually MUCH lower quality than even a dirty original one.

Don't make them as they used to I guess. Unless Sandberg is involved. ;)

The best advice I could give is try to find an original, nintendo made connector somehow. Those 3rd party ones are horrible. :/ Then do the boiling trick to clean the official nintendo one about every six months and you should be good to go.

The boiling trick is new to me so thanks for the tip if this doesn't work.
Though I have some hope, emphasize on some because I also just got a new TV and my old one was a shop copy and it's had some quirks like its Guide function for TV channels not working. It do have one of the best colours and lightning I've seen though. Anyway. :P

You're welcome. :) I'm mostly playing on clone systems anymore, they typically have the same cartridge connectors as a top loader, so it's MUCH less frustrating than the toasters. :P

Ah. Me I'm just trying to finally play it. Been a PC player since the C64 and is now trying to get enjoyment from something I only played at friends houses when growing up.
Original or not at all is my thinking. This new mini NES I see as a special case. Wouldn't detract too much from the original feeling I think. :)

Eh would be about the same either way. Other than you can use whatever real carts you have. :P And compatibility problems can be fixed via mods. :P

I wish Retron 5 would be available from Swedish online and RL shops. That with original controllers would be an acceptable substitute. Me being a nostalgic retro geek though makes me try for a NES.

Oh man, don't go with a retron 5. I don't have experience with them but I've heard worse about those emulation machines than I have clone consoles like the retro duo, fc-twin or the retro trio.

Interesting. I have friends that love their Retron 5. Maybe I'll look into your suggestions before I start looking for something like Retron 5 then. If I can't get my NES working.
