pimpmonkey2382.313: Oh man, don't go with a retron 5. I don't have experience with them but I've heard worse about those emulation machines than I have clone consoles like the retro duo, fc-twin or the retro trio.

Tarm: Interesting. I have friends that love their Retron 5. Maybe I'll look into your suggestions before I start looking for something like Retron 5 then. If I can't get my NES working.
Basically it won't play a lot of stuff. You can't use sonic and knuckles lock on carts like you can't use sonic 2 or sonic 3 with it, can't use game genie with any of the systems, it's even more cheaply made from what I hear than even retrobit's stuff. And a bunch of other random games won't play or play sluggishly slow.

Huh. Sounds like bad software emulation without real access to source code or whatever's equal for consoles. Hm. Maybe my friends just have had luck with choosing their games?

Probably but they'll probably also eventually run into something that won't play at some point. with hardware clones like retro duo, fc-twin, retro trio, etc I usually know what I'm getting into so I know generally what will and won't work. And what to do for things that won't work.

I gotta ask. What the heck is a hardware clone? Remember I'm a PC user through and through so I'm thinking cloned and emulated software here...

Hardware clones use actual hardware to run games like all the functions of an NES, SNES, etc Some SNES clones use the official SNES chips, etc. not software emulators (Like this box and Retron 5.)

Cool so they're actual hardware reproductions. Sounds great.
Heh It's complicated for a PC guy to try to catch up on his lost console childhood.
Nintendo, time to hire this guy:

The only thing I didn't like and wouldn't use, is the controller.

This video totally got me at the cart insert drop. My inner little boy squealed in delight.
I had never heard of the Raspberry PI until someone mentioned it earlier in this thread. I looked it up. I found it rather impressive despite its basic functionality. I found Retropie and other similar projects, and I'm very tempted to give a starter kit a try, despite my lack of Linux knowledge. I haven't touched an emulator in over 10 years and I'm surprised at the progress.

When I saw its first version play Quake I was sold. That project have so much future potential it's staggering. Coupled with all new small smart electricity generating devices there are.
Holy hell! I have some reading tonight :D
