synfresh: Not only that but according to Gabe (and I think even Chesko) it's Bethesda that decided that split, not Valve.

ashtonx: Funny how someone on redit posted mail to bethesda about it and they said they're also pissed and that it was all valve.

Yeah no, CS rep is not 'Bethesda'. Publisher involvement is all over the agreements/faqs for paid mods as well as the fact that the publisher is specifically the one that gets to decide what the split is for the remaining 70%. Not to mention Valve has no right to suddenly make selling mods for a Bethesda game a 'thing' without their say in it.

If Bethesda hadn't been involved in this a cease and desist would've shut down the whole thing within the first hour.

You also have statements like this from the fishing mod guy:
I'll start with the human factor. Imagine you wake up one morning, and sitting in your inbox is an email directly from Valve, with a Bethesda staff member cc'd. And they want YOU, yes, you, to participate in a new and exciting program. Well, shit. What am I supposed to say? These kinds of opportunities happen once in a lifetime. It was a very persuasive and attractive situation.

Anyway gog seems to become recommended alternative during the whole shitstorm, honestly though i'm surprised cdp is not exploiting the situation.
What can they do. They don't carry any Bethesda products so they cannot capitalize on sales. In fact they don't carry many titles that Steam carries. Meanwhile, the legendary edition of Skyrim moved up to #2 in best sellers.
CDPR/GOG trying to fire some PR regarding this has too high risk of backfiring IMO.

And Bethesda likely can't tear down the whole idea now due to legal even if they wanted to. Tho I think it's just their damage control/attempt to present themselves as good guys or even victims.
It's happening!Metacritic is going down O_O

It was?

Well, well, well... if their official support channel was instructed to blame Valve then the situation between the two must be really tense.
Could this mean we'll see Fallouts back on GOG? :)

Direct attack rarely gets you supporters and attacking competition is not GOG's way of doing business. People find their way here anyway :)
While I agree with many of the arguments, I still think an echo chamber is really annoying. Feel free to disagree. In fact, it would really help my argument if you did.
I think we all know how this will end.

Yes it dropped 0.1 in like 2 hours.People are still gathering.Look at all those 0 reviews coming. :D :D :D :D :D

P.S that's 3 years of gathered positive reviews going in the wind. What was Bethesda thinking? They are going to get shit flinged at them all over the internet.

Direct atack yeah sure, but indirect would work great. This is exactly time to do something like sale or some other crap that subtly invites people.

lmao, still i wouldn't compare mentality of rpg gamers with mentality of cod players, that's kind of insulting, even if it's skyrim.

Ow as in score down.. I thought the website.

...

Do you really think Bethesda will care about one to several decimals down on a score for a game that has long since had the bulk of it's sales behind them and even still is among the top sellers on Steam even while this is happening?

Ah yes, power of pissed off internet, you'll get used to it at some point.
Rather i'd say it's quite weak compared to some shit that happened.

Still it will hurt bethesda and valve a lot, not directly with skyrim but in the future.

.... a guy from customer support of Elder Scrolls ONLINE has about how much saying in this? Yeah, right - zero.
And that's without taking into account, that Bethesda welcomed that step official on their own blog.

Again guys, pitchforks and torches may look like fun and the right thing for you - but don't let logic and reason just slip away THAT easy....

About 100 negative reviews because of this in just one day. Looks more like the attribut "epic" get's attached to everything nowadays.

... and I guarantee you they don't. Not with Skyrim legendary edition on 2. place and the standard edition on 5. place of Steams topseller list....
Granted, that's not because of the new "feature" of paid mods but coming from the free weekend + sale. Still, Steam topseller equals money, metacritic a statistic.

The same has been foretold for Bethesda with the release of Fallout 3. Then they blew all out of the water with Skyrim.
