Exceed20XX: It is DRM-free. Just make sure you have Axiom Verge updated as there's a bug in the Epic Store version's initial release due to excised Steam files the game required. Also on an odd side note if anyone here uses DS4Windows, I don't know if Axiom Verge likes that for some reason, it gives me sound errors when I boot with it active. at least.

MarkoH01: So if you have turned on auto update on Epic it should be fine or do I have to redownload/archive it? What kind of bug is there if you haven't updated?
There's a hard crash entering an area due to a missing file..

No problem. It's a wonderful game that's worth a try, especially if you are more into the Metroid vein of the Metroidvania formula. I hope you and the others here will enjoy it, I had a good time with it on the Vita and I'm that much happier to see that some legitimate DRM-free form of it exists now (even better I didn't have to double dip for it).

On a side note, it's somewhat amusing that there's Steam remnants in many games, here, on Humble, on Twitch, and now on Epic too.

Given that the former is Windows-only, may I assume you tested the latter on that OS too?

Meanwhile, I've added two games from the latest Humble Bundle: Alone With You and Kingsway (for both of them I tested the Windows version on Linux using Wine).

I thought the quote was from a clueless user, but turns out it's from one of the devs! :TripleMegaFacePalm:

Not really amusing. Just shows how shoddy development is. Security is even worse for games especially if they use the network.

OP contains the answer.

Long story short: for some games, Steam is just where you buy & download it, but not essentialy required for running the game.

You can just access the local files folder, launch the game, and it doesn't need Steam.

It's not common, though, so don't expect it on most titles.

The answer is right there in the link in the first post on page one. This topic is a list of DRM-Free games sold through Steam that after you've used Steam client to download for the first time, you no longer need to use the Steam Client (or even have it installed) to play them / reinstall them in future.

Yes. You will have to beat a bit from the game before you will be able to do so.

Unfortunately the DLC does not unlock if you dpn't use Steam or have the DRM-free version (I tried it myself and all you get is a page telling you how to buy the DLC).
Killing Time (works fine without Steam) on Windows 10
