No. The project will never be canceled. If it only got $1 it is coming out.

If I don't get any more pledges it is possible the TOTALL SOLUSHUN HINT MANUEL may be printed on the back of old chinese newspapers and drawn painstakingly by me with crayons but nevertheless it is going to ship regardless.

Regardless.

Regardless.

Every single pledge is going to be fulfilled but if I don't even make enough for a print run, the manual may be photocopied and the color covers printed on cardboard. A little more in the next 120 days I will be able to do a proper fulfillment with a print run, possibly organized in both Australia and the U.S. and shipped from in-country distributors.

The first $1 I got it gave me stress because I realized now I was no longer a chronic demented hobbyist sitting in my lonely room crying tears of total insanity and grinning over the complexity of my 7000 lines of code to track the miniquests which had been gradually increasing in complexity for ten years. My real time graphing module showing percentages of elements of miniquests completed was my joy. Oh how they will sing my praises when they see my miniquest manager. I will be the true winnarz on the internetz.

The day after they split this thread and the Codex began to apply the thumbscrews I thought now I have to grow the f*ck up. So I chucked out three files of code and replaced the "MINIQUESTS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM" with an unsigned long (32 bits) and an enumerated list of miniquests. Complete a miniquest, it shows a checkbox in the journal. Took me ten minutes to implement. Done.

I understand now this is not a hobby any longer. I am obligated to complete it and ship it. It is giving me a little stress but maybe that is a good thing. As opposed to no stress, no resolution of problems in the code and perhaps even new features introduced when examining the problem. I am no longer doing that at all.

IIRC it was going to be on Kickstarter, but he lives in Australia so can't.
I want to believe this guy, because his game looks so good. I want to believe.

Lol, just buy it when it comes out then, if you're unsure about the guy (which is understandable, I used to be on the Codex under a few years ago so my trust level is higher of those types)

I don't know if I've formed a wrong sort of picture of him, but I'm pretty much afraid he's going to flip out 5 minutes before release because someone said something wrong on the Internet, and burn all his assets in a big bonfire. o_O;

Yeh, it's frustrating. The game does look interesting (even when you strip away the goofy hyperbole), but he's promised to release it in the past, and never has, and now he's promising to release it again, but this time, you're supposed to pre-order it for $25 up front? And he's a crazy person and personally repellent, which are never the greatest draws.

I'll consider buying it when it's actually released; if he carries out his threat to make the game backer only, I'll just have to live with not playing this game.

What do you want to believe? That the game is going to be coming out next year?

You can believe it.

It doesn't matter if the IndieGoGo campaign raises $1 or $1 million. IndieGoGo funding will determine if we can afford to add little cutscenes and enhancements that otherwise will not be in there. The best possibility is all new music and sound effects.

You can believe the game is coming out either way.
Yikes, it's the man himself!

Would you mind answering a couple of questions?

1. What's the DRM going to be for the standard version?

2. Will there be a beta testing for the pledgers?

Personally I think the sound is fine as it is. But then again I don't even play Might and Magic III muted, so there must be something wrong with me.

... but in all seriousness, it was never like I took money up front or pledges before on the game, so somebody insisting I was "evil" for perpetually setting deadlines it turned out that I didn't make just doesn't make any sense.

On the other hand, committing formally to a release by starting the IndieGoGo campaign means formally committing to a release. Feels like a different story to me. Maybe that is my weird psychology but that is how I see it.

If I am a hard working guy with three jobs in IT and I occasionally worked on Grimoire whenever time permitted, that is not like something dishonest or bad because I kept working on it forever long after I promised to release it. I don't think I have ever deserved that and you should examine people on the internet who suggest that is the case. I think somebody acting like that about a game they never put a dime towards is being ridiculous.

On the other hand, having now taken money for the game on IndieGoGo, even $1, is an obligation. If I defaulted on that obligation you could start to make some conclusions about my character and these would actually be justified.

I'm not going to default on the obligation I have now because I am fundamentally an honest person. I would not take other people's money and not fulfill their pledge. That would actually be very wrong.

I suspect a lot of moral authorities on the internet are themselves quite conflicted on what constitutes right and wrong. They talk a good game until they let slip their personal lives and you would realize I would probably be a person of far more real integrity.

Unless you consider like some people doubting global warming or gay marriage to be evil. I could counter by saying people who drink water or breathe air are immoral.

RaggieRags: 1. What's the DRM going to be for the standard version?
Merciless. A sample of your blood will be kept on file in Switzerland and every time you want to play the game you will have to insert a new drop of it in a sequencer welded to your USB drive. A failed match will mean you will be put permanently on a mailing list for Worldvision sponsorship and constantly sent illegal Swedish porn from the 70's until your server reports you to the authorities.

No, the beta testing is private this time. We have done at least three previous rounds of testing with very large teams, this is about 6 people I know who will be testing end-to-end all the time.

I am going to totally flip out and burn all my assets not just in a bonfire but in a gigantic quarry filled with diesel fuel. You will be able to see the explosion from hundreds of miles away. I don't know why people doubt my resolve. Of course it will involve a jail sentence and I may even be killed or severely burned in the resulting conflagration but it will all be worth it as long as I don't ship anymore physical media.

Of course, I could just not do another run after the pledges are fulfilled, thus avoiding the lengthy jail sentence and years of rehabilitation from 3rd degree burns over my entire body. Hah! Just joshing! Of course I am going to set off the massive quarry explosion!
...Okay, then. Will you be shipping the physical goodies only if you reach the goal?
Cleve have you tried contacting Brenda and Tom to offer pointers on how to make a good pitch video?

You just want to see the world burn, don't you.
17 years on Grimoire...isn't that about how long Axl Rose took to release Chinese Democracy? And even then, only because Dr. Pepper essentially triple-dog-dared him to release it? Maybe we could get Mello Yello to personally insult Cleve so we can finally get a finished product. ;-)

But seriously Cleve, have you considered that maybe you're just a perfectionist like Axl? That the biggest reason its taking you so long to release this game is because you keep thinking "I can make it better"?
