For quite some time now, the review system on our platform hasn’t been ideal. And we know just how important reviews are, both for discovering new games and for sharing your own experiences with them.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve rebuilt the review system to make it clearer, easier to use, and more helpful for everyone.

So, what’s new?

Edit or delete your reviews anytime (with timestamps to keep changes transparent).

Better summaries with rating breakdowns at a glance.

Your own review is always pinned on top, so you can find it right away.

A dedicated “Reviews” tab on your profile (with the option to make it visible or hidden).

Up to 8,000 characters per review, plus better formatting, smoother scrolling, and dark mode support.

Improved reporting flow to help keep reviews fair and constructive.

We hope you’ll enjoy these changes and that they’ll inspire you to write more reviews, or even post your very first one!

Check out your new “Reviews” tab HERE.

Breja: Still, the one thing this disagreement illustrates well is that noone should decide for others what reviews they should have access to.
Yep. Everybody has their own will to find the reviews relevant to them. Limiting the inputs (besides things like spam reviews) helps nobody, supposing there are adequate filtering tools.

I'm really glad that GOG seem to be working on fixing some of the longstanding issues on their platform — like dark mode, dynamic pricing, etc. The inability to edit my reviews was driving me up a wall before because I'd often forget to include something or make an error which I can't correct later. I'm glad we no longer have to contact support to edit our reviews either. I also really love that I can easily find the reviews I've written before.

Great job, GOG team! Keep it up. :-)

Shalashaska188: > Improved reporting flow to help keep reviews fair and constructive.

What is that supposed to mean? Who decides if my opinion on a game is "fair and constructive"?
Its just me shouting in to the void about video games.
To this I have to say:
There are a lot of worthless chaff reviews on the site. People who wrote "gsahusahifgas" because GOG nagged them after exiting a game in Galaxy, or reviews from people who couldn't empty a boot. A plethora of outdated reviews (GOG's fruit butter programme aside.), and of course the occasional MRA/Anti-whatever reviewer who's going to complain about various irrelevant things.
Good job, GOG Team! The new Reviews system looks great at first glance.

Unfortunately, the "Verified owner" tag is still not applied properly. I hope you can fix that too in a timely manner.

SENSHOCK: My review is valid though.

Breja: I'm sorry "you just didn't like my answer" to your question. Maybe don't ask question you don't actually want answered.

avatar
SENSHOCK: As i said i don't need to to qualify to a standard that you don't set.
avatar
Breja: The standard is "actual first hand experience with the thing you're reviewing". I have no idea how that was not clear by now.

No, you don't have to qualify. Just as I don't need to consider your reviews valid. Simple, right?
Indeed, it's very simple, just like your mind.
Thank you GOG team!

Though please keep on fine tuning it of any quirks (that some have pointed out) when you get the chance. :)

Anyway, good to see these changes. Oh, and as some have already mentioned, it would be nice to view the @me\review page with the Profile disabled. I'd really like to avoid enabling my Profile every time I need to check.

No rush though, just whenever you folks get around to it, I hope you consider the option if it's possible. :)
.
Good to see this change. That will make things easier. Well done gog.

No i wanted my question answered. I think you're a little confused.

The standard is "actual first hand experience with the thing you're reviewing". I have no idea how that was not clear by now.
Is it? or is that an opinion.

Cool, then we're good then.

Good changes! About time... :D
This update ... sounds good.
When writing a new review, it seems that it's not possible to specify in which language it is written. Does GOG use some heuristics to determine it automatically?

Also, when viewing reviews, there are only 6 languages to filter by, and all the rest is in Others. So it's not possible to read just reviews that are in my native language.

The combination of both of these seems to imply that reviews are mostly useful for people speaking those 6 languages, but not really to anyone else? Or have I missed something?
I appreciate this improvement. Cheers, GOG!

Those are the 6 languages GOG supports for the site.
This is great to see. Too bad it's taken this many years for GOG's owners/management to actually put some work into the basic user-facing functions of the site, but better late than never. :)

Just to balance out the praise, I have to say that the revamp to the top of the front page looks awful. =P I also hope that the plain, flat black theme on that page (even in light mode) is just a short-term thing, like some of the past color changes they've done sometimes for sales or major releases.

mrkgnao: So, checking the Reviews tab on my profile, I learned that 15 years ago I had written a review about a game that is no longer available on GOG (Fallout Classic). I would like to delete that review. How do I do it?
You want to delete a review that no one else can see anyway? (I mean, except maybe via the Wayback Machine et al, which GOG can't do anything about.)

Yeah!
Looks good, ty for this:D
Cause even how hard and careful I was to make sure it was all right, errors still happened with a random word sign or something else sometimes so I had to contact u, so its nice to be able to edit it ourself!

-
One more major request, and a few small ones, that I would like also on GOG, is developers being able to commment/contact u on ur review!
As someone who care greatly about review integrity in a sea of fake/useless ones, and also helping out devs and new games in general through ur review, it has come in handy many times 'over there' where they have reached out over w/e it was about in my review, to work on adding fix to it with w/e I found or didnt work on ur system or in their end to then hotfix, this specially for new releases, etc. Or simply just to say ty.

This might not seem like a big deal and many use the News section to look for updates, or scour through discussion page for dev updates, but in my xp dev review comments have often been used as a better and more direct way to immediatly address any issues and hotfix it, cause most look to reviews first for 'updates' and if its abandonware, forum second.

If devs have a chance to react and work on it directly, or even just to respond to ridiculous negative reviews made just to hate with no valid justification other than to hurt the game, I think it would be a great option to have here too.

Many devs might not care or bother to reach out, but for sure many would very much like to be able to engage with reviews, I have talked to many the past 15 yrs who use this method, on both good and bad reviews, but they arent able to here. Sending player a pm in such a way wouldnt be right.
I know I would use this option myself if I was a dev.

And also, if a dev review their own game, give them dev tag if they use their dev account so we can see it and discount it, b/c they are obviously biased and unable to review objectively ;P

I had ~300 reviews on the other platform and I review honestly both gd and bad, I love to review especially overlooked games that deserve more reviews or simply have none b/c so many go for aaa games and never care about the smaller games that are often burried treasure troves.
I had many dev responses by that time and it always shows the game in a gd light to see when devs are active and respond, whether on reviews or forum. It show they care and listen.

Im convinced many devs would be grateful and love this feature for reviews here!

Its also came in handy once of twice in regards to guides I wrote.
Which is another things Id also really love here on GOG. GUIDES. I hate having to go over there each time, and I am/was an avid guide creator myself so if u could sneak that in too while ur on a roll Id be twice as grateful ;o
(And if u do, make it so u make a player/dev message option during that also pls.)
Its very usefull and helps devs and their game, and us ofc.

Its a good system otherwise, I generally am impressed how it it all looks- dropdown options etc, also on store/forums.
I also love how clicking on the game from ur review page now jumps right to ur review on that game page and scrolls down automatically to it!
