For quite some time now, the review system on our platform hasn’t been ideal. And we know just how important reviews are, both for discovering new games and for sharing your own experiences with them.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve rebuilt the review system to make it clearer, easier to use, and more helpful for everyone.

So, what’s new?

Edit or delete your reviews anytime (with timestamps to keep changes transparent).

Better summaries with rating breakdowns at a glance.

Your own review is always pinned on top, so you can find it right away.

A dedicated “Reviews” tab on your profile (with the option to make it visible or hidden).

Up to 8,000 characters per review, plus better formatting, smoother scrolling, and dark mode support.

Improved reporting flow to help keep reviews fair and constructive.

We hope you’ll enjoy these changes and that they’ll inspire you to write more reviews, or even post your very first one!

Check out your new “Reviews” tab HERE.
high rated
Anyway, nice and necessary change overall.
But, a few issues:
1. There should be a way to access your own reviews list even for those with disabled profiles. And as a little QoL feature, add the edit/delete options when you view all your reviews too, not just on game pages.
2. There's a question about the continued relevance of ratings for altered reviews, and even more so if the ratings were also changed. Granted that clearing ratings in case of edits would provide an easy way to get rid of bad ratings, but with a zero rating review not usually floating to the top, that should be less of an issue. On the other hand, such a thing would understandably make authors of high-rated reviews not want to edit them even if they'd have small corrections to make or if they'd want to flesh them out some more now that there's room. So it's a matter for debate, but when someone can completely alter the review, it's a debate worth having.
3. Thanks for the increased character limit, but the fact that there is one is still an issue. Can fit about half of the reviews I ever wrote for games from GOG within the new limit (the old one fit precisely zero, those I had posted before were posted before the workaround to get around the limit was stamped out, so they could and usually do exceed even the current limit thankfully) My longest review has almost 20000 characters. Would be nice to be able to post all of them someday...
4. On the note of length, since you can very well rate a game without reviewing, could there be, if not an actual minimum character limit, at least a way to filter out short reviews? Nice if the limit would be customizable, but if you want to make it simpler, offer options to filter out those with less than, say, 200 and 500, at the very least. I'd prefer also 1000, I mean that's about a solid paragraph that'd normally make the conclusion of any proper review. And if you add that, I guess you could also allow filtering out long ones too, for those who are bothered by that.
5. On the topic of very short, pointless reviews, I gather that those are generally the result of Galaxy pestering users to review games they purchase? That "feature" should really be removed, in that case.

While I'm at it, reviews I still can't post because of the character limit (so not including those posted several years ago thanks to the workaround):

Played the GOG version:
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic
Fantasy General
Hero of the Kingdom II
King of Dragon Pass (classic)
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Tropico 4 + Complete DLC Pack (aka Tropico 4: Collector's Bundle elsewhere)
Venetica - Gold Edition
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Played the GOG version but it has since been delisted:
Regions of Ruin

Game is on GOG but I didn't play the GOG version:
Ascension to the Throne
Drakensang
Evil Islands
Risen (mentions the retail version's DRM, which obviously wouldn't apply here)
Tropico 3 Gold Edition

SENSHOCK: "Yes, you can tell some things from it, to better judge whether you yourself are likely to like the game when deciding whether to buy the game"
Yes exactly and that's all i need. You may need more but that's you.
Congratulations, you have missed the point entirely.

SENSHOCK: I can also review any game from this. I don't need to qualify based on your terms or standards because you don't set any.
You just quoted a pretty long post where I do exactly that.

Also I never said you can't review the game. You can do whatever you like. I said your review will not be valid, as that was your original question.

What is even the point of reviews, following your logic, if all you need can be found in a gameplay video? Because to me the point of a review is to describe to one's best ability a first hand experience with the game. What is the point of decribing second hand impressions based on materials available to the prospective reader of your review as well?

Congratulations? why did i win a prize? No i didn't miss any point you just didn't like my answer.

My review is valid though. . As i said i don't need to to qualify to a standard that you don't set.
For once this looks like a really positive change, unlike the new checkout pages.

I love it that we finally are able to see the number of ratings for a game again, after you had removed that information from the game cards how many years ago!?

Hopefully the voting for reviews works more reliable too now.

PS: Perhaps the promo pages mechanism also would need some rework, the Weekly Deals promo contains 263 games and DLCs, but only 5 of them are discounted. ;)

I'm sorry "you just didn't like my answer" to your question. Maybe don't ask question you don't actually want answered.

The standard is "actual first hand experience with the thing you're reviewing". I have no idea how that was not clear by now.

No, you don't have to qualify. Just as I don't need to consider your reviews valid. Simple, right?

No i wanted my question answered. I think you're a little confused.

Is it? or is that an opinion.

Cool, then we're good then.

Indeed. Filing that under bugfixes really :)
Vindication after twelve years. You can mark this complete now: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/increase_character_limit_on_reviews

Not quite completely from where I'm standing. And there's no specific higher limit listed in the wish.
Am reviewing the revised review section with the usual 3.7 in a scale from A to D with Pineapple being the highest score possible but only available between 1am and 3am, during a solar eclipse.

Looks good, makes its more worthwhile to drop a review no and again. Kudos, well needed update!

What is that supposed to mean? Who decides if my opinion on a game is "fair and constructive"?
Its just me shouting in to the void about video games.

Bassi_2k10: Are these changes already fully implemented or will that take more time? Because when I tried editing one oy my reviews, it wasn't pinned on top at the store page. Also, there was no option to do so. Which frankly makes the whole ability to edit reviews rather pointless for me, because I defintely won't sift through the whole review section of a game just to find my own and make some changes. Also, I have some critique about that new "review" tab. Why is it not available via the Galaxy client (which I always use), but instead you have to log in at gog.com and check your profile there. I mean, what's the point of a dedicated gaming client, if you have to log in through a homepage to access certain functions? Seems rather inconvenient in the years 2025, don't you think? And while I'm at it: What's the point of the "review" tab, if you cannot edit or delete your reviews from there? With all due respect, but your reworked review systems is rather disappointing to me.
The changes are fully implemented - you should be able to see them. Maybe try clearing your cookies or something. Your reviews of any game where you have one should be on top (as long as you are logged in). The review tab is available in the Galaxy if you open the game in the store inside Galaxy. There is also a button to add a public review on every game but this one still have the old character limit so I don't recommend it - this will probably require Galaxy update one day. And last - the pont of the review tab is so you can easly find your reviews so u dont have to search through hundreds of games (that you may own) one by one...

GOG.com:
So, checking the Reviews tab on my profile, I learned that 15 years ago I had written a review about a game that is no longer available on GOG (Fallout Classic). I would like to delete that review. How do I do it?

00063: No, no, nonono... i'm talking about 5 stars rating without leaving review.
And you even can see the average rating from verified owners, just look at the number under "Other ratings - Verified owners". ;)

With all that information and a finer granularity for the ratings the GOG system to me is superior to what Steam offers.

Cavalary: Eh, the star system is usually out of 5, but would be nice to allow for half-star ratings, so the system itself would be kept but a granularity like the out of ten system would be implemented.
Agreed, and I also would like to start the rating range with zero as there are games on GOG which I would not give even a single star, unfortunately. Which reminds me, please give us a "not interested" list, GOG!
