Great alien googly moogly!

<span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> a brain-twisting Lucasfilm adventure classic, is available now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - for the first time in digital distribution - DRM-free on GOG.com

Following the immense success of Maniac Mansion, <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> was the second adventure game ever released on the classic SCUMM engine. The two games share plenty of similarities, but there is no denying that for Zak McKracken development team, ambition and was the name of the game. You'll control four characters, complete multi-pathed puzzles, and travel all over the globe. The game's unique cash mechanic comes into play here: your plane tickets cost money, you'll actually have to buy the items you might need (not just, well, steal 'em), and you'll even end up with a phone bill you may or may not want to pay off at some point. <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> is an early Lucasfilm adventure - we do recommend tackling it with a walkthrough on-hand, lest you run out of cash, or air, on Mars, and die - but it's also a chance to experience one of adventure's earliest and biggest classics.

Relive adventure history and save the world from dumbifying alien lasers in <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span>, available right here for the first time in digital distribution!
From the game description: "No typing requirted! Just point-and-click to solve puzzles and talk to the crazy characters that live in Zak's world!"

What does "requirted" mean, I'm unfamiliar with that English word and can't seem to find it in any dictionaries so I thought I should point at it and click and try to solve the puzzle but I'm stuck. These old games are hard! GOG, any clues how to get past this tricky puzzle? ;)

DCT: Yeah it's a pain to look up the codes and all that but that bit was just so funny and was a creative form of anti piracy. Ah well.

Rixasha: The FM Towns version does not seem to have this part, but the included DOS version does. However, ScummVM has the code lookups disabled by default. You should be able to re-enable them by editing the configuration file and adding copy_protection=true under the right part.

I just tried it and it works, but I use my own scummvm and config. Unfortunately GOG.com doesn't provide the code sheet, so jail is pretty much where you'll be going this way. The correct codes do work, though, if you have a sheet.
it includes the Dos version? where? I didn't see anything in the folder or anything nor a shortcut to launch that version. Was it a separate download? because there was nothing of the sort in the extras and I only have one box on my shelf for this game.

You'll have to bear with me, I'm a Linux user and even though GOG supports Zak on Linux, it was only as a .deb package and I don't like those, so my downloader is not set to fetch them and I only got the windows installer. I did what I usually do for this sort of thing and used innoextract to get to its contents. I assume that on Windows this gets installed and you don't have to do that. At least the provided zak.ini file appears to have a [zak-fdd] section, so it's odd if you don't have an easy way to launch it.

Is there under your game directory a directory named FDD that has files named 00.LFL...58.LFL. That's the other version, just add a game to scummvm and point it there.

yyahoo: Great, now I'm confused again. So the newsletter is only in English and the Newspaper is only in German? And the newsletter is the National Inquisitor newspaper, but the Newspaper isn't?

JudasIscariot: There, should be fixed, the changes will show up in around 5-10 minutes :P
Ah!! So they were the same thing! Gotcha...

yeah I found the shortcut for the dos version(it's marked as floppy version), seems it ended up buried under another icon on my desktop. But thanks anyway.

Maybe GOG.com or someone would be kind enough to link to a scan of the code sheet on the games forums? :)

When I pick up the game, I'll be sure to check that part of the game out.

I don't think any version of Zak ever had speech...
I just exclaimed out loud when I read "Zak McKracken". A complete nostalgia punch to the face! :D

indeed zak mcKracken was a great game and still is but very difficult
maniac mansion also a great game but als very hard to finish without any leads of what to do next once you are stuck.

In Maniac mansion you could choose some members, one was a girl a singer, i remember she had to sing to make a lightbulb burst or so, containing a small key if i remember correctly, a friend of mine told me that way back in the c64 period.

A nerd , called Bernard i think, was also handy.

Is this the fan made remake that LucasArts had banned?.

LindsayYates: Is this the fan made remake that LucasArts had banned?.
No. GOG doesn't sell fan-made remakes.
I would like to start by stating that it is great to see these old gems on GOG. However, I cannot help but feel that the price point could be a bit lower. After all, some of these games are 25+ years old, and many of us have owned them back in the day. Not to mention the studio that made these games doesn't even exist anymore, so it's not like the money goes where it should...
