Great alien googly moogly!

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders a brain-twisting Lucasfilm adventure classic, is available now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - for the first time in digital distribution - DRM-free on GOG.com

Following the immense success of Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders was the second adventure game ever released on the classic SCUMM engine. The two games share plenty of similarities, but there is no denying that for Zak McKracken development team, ambition and was the name of the game. You'll control four characters, complete multi-pathed puzzles, and travel all over the globe. The game's unique cash mechanic comes into play here: your plane tickets cost money, you'll actually have to buy the items you might need (not just, well, steal 'em), and you'll even end up with a phone bill you may or may not want to pay off at some point. Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is an early Lucasfilm adventure - we do recommend tackling it with a walkthrough on-hand, lest you run out of cash, or air, on Mars, and die - but it's also a chance to experience one of adventure's earliest and biggest classics.

Relive adventure history and save the world from dumbifying alien lasers in Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, available right here for the first time in digital distribution!

LindsayYates: Is this the fan made remake that LucasArts had banned?.
This is the FM-Towns-console verison of the game. It's the same as the original DOS version, but with improved graphics and audio.

Savior42: I cannot help but feel that the price point could be a bit lower.
If you can't afford them at list prices or don't think they're worth it, just wait for a good sale. Lucasarts adventures were already -50% in the recent insomnia promo after about five months on the site.

I have Zak for C64 and Amiga, the capability to read the original media, and even the original machines in working condition in case I feel scummvm doesn't do good enough a job. I still jumped at the chance to buy the FM Towns version of Zak on first day. Great addition to the catalogue, and hopefully not the last FM Towns release that we see.

Monkey Island 2 SE on the other hand I'm leaving for later. I already have a perfectly good version, am not interested in the new graphics at all, so it's still too expensive for me.
Played this game on Amiga 500 [1MB] always remember that bit with the natives, where you had to click on them in the right order. when you clicked on one it made the sound "donk" so funny. might have to buy this.

The only thing I didn't like about this game was the pyramid maze. arrrggggggg.

:P

Yay! So glad to see Zak on GoG :D
I don't know why I kept my Zak McKracken from 1988, but I'm glad I did. This was always my favorite Lucasfilm adventure game, even more than Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. The cynical humor, "out of the box" logic and tabloid conspiracy theory themes really resonated with me as a teen. When I moved to a computer that had no 5.25" floppy, I was forced to give up Zak, and I felt the loss. Thank you GOG for resurrecting such an awesome game and allowing me to relive the nostalgia.

P.S. - I still have my Maniac Mansion "Bulletin Board" poster, disks, manual, copy protection key and hint book. Please let me know when you're releasing an updated version of the game.

Thank you for re-releasing this gem! Oddly enough I'm having trouble with puzzles that I had solved when I was twelve without any hiccups. The plot of this game involves humanity becoming stupider over time. Hmmm...
