Great alien googly moogly!

<span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> a brain-twisting Lucasfilm adventure classic, is available now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - for the first time in digital distribution - DRM-free on GOG.com

Following the immense success of Maniac Mansion, <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> was the second adventure game ever released on the classic SCUMM engine. The two games share plenty of similarities, but there is no denying that for Zak McKracken development team, ambition and was the name of the game. You'll control four characters, complete multi-pathed puzzles, and travel all over the globe. The game's unique cash mechanic comes into play here: your plane tickets cost money, you'll actually have to buy the items you might need (not just, well, steal 'em), and you'll even end up with a phone bill you may or may not want to pay off at some point. <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span> is an early Lucasfilm adventure - we do recommend tackling it with a walkthrough on-hand, lest you run out of cash, or air, on Mars, and die - but it's also a chance to experience one of adventure's earliest and biggest classics.

Relive adventure history and save the world from dumbifying alien lasers in <span class="bold">Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders</span>, available right here for the first time in digital distribution!

jamyskis: I can definitely confirm that ScummVM will run Maniac Mansion directly if you point it at the relevant directory within the DOTT folder of the disc version.
Yes, but it's the EGA version and not that pretty. I don't know of all the releases, but the Amiga version at least looks much nicer (and yes, ScummVM will play it).
Cool, insta buy for me.

It has the FM Towns version and also the DOS floppy version which is kind of similar to the Amiga version, in all fairness it is one of the better DOS versions available.

haydenaurion: So close to Maniac Mansion but not quite, hopefully it will be coming.

jamyskis: I suspect that when Day of the Tentacle eventually comes, it'll be bundled with direct access to Maniac Mansion through ScummVM, given that the full Maniac Mansion game was available in DOTT anyway.

Double Fine is currently doing a remaster of DOTT. I don't think they are going to rerelease the original anymore.

mattymuc: I played the Amiga version and the DOS version looked so crappy in comperison... But the FM Towns version would be great :)
yes we were spiled rotten with the AMIGA 500 and the later versions the graphics were less pixel and just looked better then pc, BUT that doesnt make the games less enjoyable
i played them on c64 aswell and that was kinda like the 1st pc games so its good.

I just bought those 4

monkey island™ 2 special edition: lechuck’s revenge™
zak mckracken and the alien mindbenders
loom™

BEHOLD! My original National Inquisitor!

Out of curiosity, the extras state that there is a newsletter and a newspaper (German). Does this mean that the National Inquisitor is included but only in German? A little confused here...

ScummVM skips copy protection, it is mentioned in ScummVM wiki and wikipedia tells that you don't need to enter the codes in FM-Towns version.
>---->
"All official versions of the game except the FM-Towns port require the player to enter copy protection codes (called "exit visa codes" inside the game) whenever they fly outside of the United States."
>---->

Japanese-language version has also something different, it has second sprite set for characters. X-)
Now what am I supposed to do with that fuel?

ah man, that kinda blows. Yeah it's a pain to look up the codes and all that but that bit was just so funny and was a creative form of anti piracy. Ah well.

It's included in both languages.

Gracias! You might want to clarify that on the gamecard. Maybe change (German) to (English & German). Just a thought...

It's two separate goodies, hence the separation :)

The FM Towns version does not seem to have this part, but the included DOS version does. However, ScummVM has the code lookups disabled by default. You should be able to re-enable them by editing the configuration file and adding copy_protection=true under the right part.

I just tried it and it works, but I use my own scummvm and config. Unfortunately GOG.com doesn't provide the code sheet, so jail is pretty much where you'll be going this way. The correct codes do work, though, if you have a sheet.

Great, now I'm confused again. So the newsletter is only in English and the Newspaper is only in German? And the newsletter is the National Inquisitor newspaper, but the Newspaper isn't?

There, should be fixed, the changes will show up in around 5-10 minutes :P
