kokosabre: If only the game didnt feature an option to upload your own images....

Starmaker: That's exactly why this dlc is perfectly okay. If they intentionally crippled the game to disallow custom images, then sold additional portraits, that'd be bad. Why do people assume programmers need to eat but artists don't?
I dont mind the DLC one bit(mainly because I did my fair share of cosmetic purchases) but its devauled by the option that you can upload your own images(and its fairly easy to do that so kudos to Obsidian).

Why I'm not surprised?

It's just the beginning. The situation with idiotic DLCs and other money-sucking activities will be becoming worse, and worse, and worse every year.

Who's to blame? Greedy and cynical developers and sellers? Yes. But the main culprits are YOU, buyers, overjoying and overhyping, crying on every corner about the cold stale sh*t like Tyranny, Numenera, and other modern talentless games, crying like "Oh, the new standard for RPGs, how modern are they, how cool are they, the best game of latest ten years... blah-blah-blah"... And developers read all this nonsense, and think "Well, these idiots ate it. Give'em more!".

So what are you surprised at?

Vote with your purse, finally!

I`m still waiting for the "Download DLC" for GoG. This DLC enables you to download the games you bought on GoG. Super cheap, only 9.99$.

Just kidding. But I think, for some internet dealers this would be a wet dream. :-D

4 bucks for a few portraits? This is bullshit! :D

Are they seriously selling just image files? I hope they don't sell a single copy, this is just BS.

This is the price of bringing AA(A) publishers to GOG.

Oh, Paradox you just had to find a way to make it blatantly obvious to everyone who doesn't use Steam nor browses the the store on your website of how you so love to nickel & dime your target audience! I don't understand; Paradox, didn't you claim that the reason they couldn't offer upgrades to Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny was because of issues in creating new SKUs at GOG's store? How is magically possible all of a sudden you can offer cosmetic DLC for Tyranny?! Paradox, not only are you baldfaced liars by trying to claim the cups & balls in front of us isn't a shell game; you're completely full of shit! What next, you're going to claim three-card Monte isn't a short con?!

Obsidian; you need to completely escape from these unabashed snake oil , [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprophagous]coprophagous mountebanks before they completely & totally ruin any & all good will the remaining customer base has for you!...

Nearly every GOG game has avatars as an extra -- well, there's your portraits! Also, there is a shipload of high quality portraits for games like Baldur's Gate & Arcanum etc. out there. For free. It seems that gone are the days when one couldn't decide which portrait to use for their character, out of a multitude of options that every good game was shipped with back then...

Chandoraa: Yeah, I think the time has come to stop regarding GOG as being any better than any other store.
As i see it, I don't think GOG has the choice to reject this or any other DLC -- they must have some kind of agreement with this publisher that includes a line or two about DLCs or anything else the publisher wants to sell. Not accepting this means they can't sell the whole game, which would be bad for GOG & it's customers.

I just love that the first and only comment on the store page is a set of detailed instructions for uploading your own portraits.

Chandoraa: Yeah, I think the time has come to stop regarding GOG as being any better than any other store. Not that I even care about this game in particular (not until it's very heavily discounted anyway), but you could say this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I so wish I had a backup of Good Old GOG's advertising videos about being ripped off or eating the whole cake to prove my point, but then again, who could expect at that time that they'd end up pulling such a 180° turn? Well, whatever, it's not like it's the first time the games industry (or a niche thereof) stops regarding me as a desirable target or anything.
As long as GOG's games are 100% DRM free, they will continue to be better than the competition. While I do wish they'd have more classic rereleases and less indie games flooding the store, I understand that that's likely a move they had to make to keep the store afloat.
I pity the april's foo on the 4th of april.
