Anyway I don't even know what we're arguing about since we agree on Hitman. I'm just saying most people will load the store, see it for sale, buy it and then not play it for god knows how long, or not pay attention enough to know there's a real issue. Though news sites reporting on it will help.

Not really when the game is mostly locked behind a online always drm factor that the meta progression and such was not disclosed and its such a crippled game without all that .. so its not review bombing as a result

Fair point, I was referring to gaming press actually bothering to cover the story. PC Gamer's and Rock Paper Shotgun's are a little more favorable to us imo.

You can tell yourself that all you want, but it will never become the truth. Fact is majority of the game can be played offline with only the online items requiring online activation. Even GoG informs potential buyers of that fact on the store page. So, yes, you and your ilk are review bombing.

Yes, because playing a game where the entire idea is to constantly replay missions over and over again with different loadouts, starting locations, and outfits while that entire system for unlocking stuff is locked to a stupid XP system that's online only is definitely the "majority" of content. I love playing every mission with a default suit, standard silenced pistol, and some coins.

Also, funny the GOG warning on the store page refuses to mention the Mastery System because saying, "Yeah, the entire progression system is locked behind an online system," sounds fucking awful, doesn't it?

when someone buys a singleplayer game from this store they expect to be able to play it offline.
a game being available on GOG implies that.

and that's important for people who travel, have unreliable internet, etc.

very disappointed that this game would make it through GOG's curation and policies. they should have told the devs that they either have to change the progression system so it doesn't need to connect online, or they won't be selling the game.

Negative feedback that says the same thing is not a "harassment campaign" or "muh gamergate", it's consumers agreeing that an aspect of a game is bad. Was it harassment when people universally said "Big Rigs is bad because the game doesn't work"? No, stop trying to paint this as a "harassment campaign".

This isn't even the big problem. I understand GOG trying to broaden their library, particularly with titles belonging to franchises they already have. Sure, it goes against the original spirit of the store, but I understand the thought process behind it ("It's a popular game, we should have it"). The real problem is the lack of transparency from GOG's part. The store page for the game still says "Internet connection is required to access Escalation missions, Elusive Targets or user-created Contracts. Story and bonus missions can be played offline" and nothing more. It doesn't mention that you absolutely need to play online to unlock offline play, which is the one issue people have with the game.

Besides that, they don't even have a message saying they're in communication with the developers in order to see this changed (barring the generic "Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention", which has all the value of an automated birthday greeting given by an internet forum), which suggest they're not really doing anything about it. And they have the gall to pretend people who complain are "review bombing" (even if they tried to save face afterwards).

And all of this coming on the heels of all the problems with Devotion's release (which is still not released on the store despite the massive backlash due to their lies about what customers wanted, something for which they haven't even entertained the possibility to explain) and the whole CP77 debacle.

I know some people are judging this complaint as being "overzealous about DRM" (something that even if it were true would be entirely reasonable), but the real issue is the cascade of problems with the store that have been piling up for quite a while, soiling the name of this place that we used to love so much and making it harder and harder to justify choosing this particular storefront to make purchases.

Are you fucking serious? What's the point of using GOG now anymore? The only thing making GOG differnet from steam is no DRm and now that is thrown out of the water, mgiht as well just go back to pirating games now.

What a waste of a good brand

While you're looking into this, you should update the store page to be accurate. There is currently a note on the store page which says "Please note: Internet connection is required to access Escalation missions, Elusive Targets or user-created Contracts. Story and bonus missions can be played offline." If core gameplay elements (weapons, outfits, starting location, etc) do not get unlocked when playing offline, then that should be clearly stated on the store page. If it is even questionable whether or not is the case and is something you are looking into, then that should be noted on the store page so prospective buyers are aware of it. Additionally, you should remove the text "DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play" from the store page for that game since it's misleading at best and is completely false if "to play" means "to play the game as the developer intended".

Lastly, I don't know how you define "review bombing", but if you are referring to people leaving 1-star reviews because the game has DRM built into it while the store page explicitly says "DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play", then those are valid reviews.

gog is no longer run by good old gamers. they opened themselves up to big money and the sales team is in control

seriously, what is it chandra and the team are going to check into? a whole new version of the game that has been sitting on the side just in case people giot mad?
