SirPrimalform: Or even just the original Windows version (which works in ScummVM and is nearly identical to the hypercard version). ME contains some weird bugs in the Mechanical Age fortress rotation. It can still be done with some trial and error but it doesn't behave consistently like in the original Windows version.

Maighstir: Mentioning HyperCard was mostly me being sarcastic, since GOG would never bother releasing binaries for classic Macintosh System/Mac OS, or even Mac OS X/PowerPC as they don't cater to legacy systems at all. I don't even know which language was used for the original port to Windows, C was purely a guess.

MarkoH01: Which btw. could also be avoided since there is at least a German version of Myst Masterpiece Edition available (I just installed it to check) - just not here.
avatar
Maighstir: Have you contacted GOG about that, they might want the files.
A few years ago I offered GOG 156 German language versions that weren't available on GOG then. Several of them were rejected due to legal issues - others were not marked at all. But of course I can contact them again since things sometimes change.

MIK0: The original Myst and the first Real Myst are not considered. Unfortunately Myst Masterpiece Edition is only available in English while the original was localized in many languages.

I didn't know about that. The issue with the other languages remain. Unless Cyan has a way to port the original localization to the masterpiece edition, we need the original.
I'm starting to think Beamdog did a rather big PR blunder when they decided to bundle the original versions of Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment with the Enhanced Editions. What they should have done, is declare that they where going to pull the original games completely, and then "listen" to their customers and add them as an extra. Everyone would be happy.

If I've understood correctly, unless GOG had interfered and asked to bundle them, they would have been pulled. But yeah, since we didn't have the experience of having it pulled, we complain about it not still being its own product.

I did not know that; good work GOG!

Myst Masterpiece Edition (the 1999 edition) has a French version too.

Of course this would shine a completely different light on the whole situation. But why isn't a blue telling this? I guess several angry people would reevaluate their opinion.

I could of course be wrong (it's been a while), but I seem to remember people mentioning at times since the "bundling" that the bundled originals are GOG-exclusive. If it wasn't GOG's doing, I would assume that they'd be available when buying the Beamdog editions anywhere.

I have myst, myst masterpiece edition, and real myst. Is real myst masterpiece edition worth it? I haven't even played those three earlier versions yet lol :D

or should I wait for the inevitable Mysterpiece edition in like a couple of years from now?
It's sad to see another game being removed from stores to increase the sales of a remastered version. And I agree, making the original game available as a bonus is the least they could do.

Once again, GOG, please keep the game cards of removed games accessible by the game owners!

For me it's about seeing how different the Ages are in each incarnation. For example, see attached image. Myst Masterpiece Edition is on the left, and had a sort of yellow-y fog for the Stoneship Age. Realmyst, on the right, changed it to being cloudy and rainy, but has a day/night cycle.

And, last I checked, Realmyst Masterpiece Edition changes Stoneship to being at night while raining. With no day/night cycle. So it looks like 2nd attached image.

I don't exactly hate it, but I had been hoping for more replication of the earlier look. So to me, being able see the Age in its various forms is, well, enjoyable.

This is a shame. This is my favourite version. The Masterpiece edition did not implement some of the day/night cycles for certain ages. Plus I just prefer the look. It was a beautiful game in 2000 and it's a beautiful game today. Fond memories. It shouldn't disappear forever. GOG is the perfect place for older versions of games like this to be. At least include it as a bonus along with Real Myst Masterpiece Edition, Cyan! :'(
I have not played a Myst game before and hadn't been planning to buy this, but since it will be removed soon, and I remember seeing Myst games in the store long ago and thinking it looked really interesting, and also seeing DDDespair's screenshots, I thought I'd buy this for my pile of "play in the future" games :)
Why wasn't this announced prominently on the home page? I'm only now finding out about it after it has already been removed.

Seems pretty shady to me when Real Myst Masterpiece Edition has many negative reviews suggesting that it doesn't offer anything better than Real Myst yet costs more.
