IFW: I'd be happy to pre-order the game if there was a way to upgrade between the various editions...

SpiderFighter: No way will I purchase for $90 what GOG used to provide with their games for free. I'll wait for it to hit the Humble Monthly in a year or so, and live without the "Bonus Content." The idea of three different releases based on digital extras is overreaching.

More power to them if it turns out to be a successful model, but that's my opinion.
These different editions are corresponding to reward levels you could choose in the KS-Campaign.
It would be quite silly to offer stuff as rewards that would later be free for everybody, wouldn´t it? Anyways, I´d prefer it as well if devs would do better equipped standard editions in general.
I'll wait for the option to exchange my Steam key for a GOG key. I'll just hope that they'll have this figured out by the release date.

tremere110: And I'm all for gender equality. I just find it hard to suspend disbelief that humanity can somehow be reduced 10,000 years back in time and yet something like gender equality survives while nothing else does. It makes more sense that humanity would have to claw its way back to equality each time. I also wouldn't be adverse to a matriarchal society rising from the ashes on occasion.
You must have a hard time with fantasy / science fiction in general...
How about: orcs, trolls, magic, lightsabers, klingons, skynet, elven invisibility cloaks, weird science, jumping hedgehogs, mushroom munching plumbers .... etc.? :p

I think you're missing his point. All of the examples you listed make sense ( more or less ) within the context of the Fantasy and Sci-Fi settings they appear in.

It's annoying when devs force real world political themes or trends into a fictional setting, where they end up feeling out of place, regardless of how one feels about those issues in real life.

I don't know whether that's going to be a problem with this game, but I can understand why some are concerned about it.

I'm sure that some other people think that some of my examples don't/didn't make sense in their context. However, random opinions aside, it's up to the author to decide what makes sense and what doesn't.

It's up to the authors to decide how they shape their game world -- whether it's coherent and "makes sense" to the player, is entirely a matter of just how well written and built the world is, and whether they manage to explain certain elements which seem illogical from a real world point of view.

Like I said, maybe it's not a problem with this particular game. It may well be that they put a lot of effort into the world-building and writing, and everything makes perfect sense once you learn more about the game world. But if certain elements feel forced in and out of place, it could well ruin the experience for many players. ( And considering the price, and the history of the "series", I think it's fair that those interested in the game expect it to be an outstanding experience, especially on the story & writing side of things. )

Even if Torment just manages to fulfil my lowest expectations, it'll be much better than most releases these days. ;-) I can probably count the (great) cRPGs from the last 5 years on one hand.

Silverhawk170485: 90€ for the Immortal Edition. How comes this?
All this work to create digital content warrants double the base price

chandl34: They did explain this from the beginning. I haven't turned in my backer key, because I want to eventually get the GOG version.
ok. thank you for the information. I admit i kept muyself away from most of the dev diary to avoid spoilers, only read the emails i got. Still a little "last chance" explicit disclaimer when validating the reward could have been nice too. But anyway, seems i am screwed, as you confirm it was noted down somewhere

I think Inexile have said that on release day or around release day you can get your steam key revoked and changed to a gog key
Edit: (updated note from Inexile in the backer rewards section)
Note: Torment will be releasing on February 28th, 2017. All backers can now claim a Steam key to let them play the early access version, and the game will update to the final version upon release. If you want the game on GOG instead, we will make GOG keys available closer to release, and will later add a way to exchange your Steam early access key for a GOG key as well.

fables22: Re: Q2: You assume correctly. The Lords of Xulima bonus is a GOG pre-order exclusive. Sorry!
OK, I just paid for Torment: Tides of Numenera, but how do I get Lords of Xulima bonus? I didn't get any notifications about it, and it wasn't added to the library either.

Go to Numenera's box, click the "More" button and it should show you a drop-down menu. Choose "Serial keys" and you should see the code for Lords of Xulima.

Ah, thanks for the pointer! GOG should have specified it in their announcement really. Pretty not intuitive.
