Outlaws + A Handful of Missions: Remaster is now available for pre-order on GOG!

From the masters at Nightdive Studios comes another remaster of a timeless classic. This time, it’s the legendary Outlaws + A Handful of Missions, the western FPS that defined a genre.

Pre-order now!

kai2: Even with good games, I'm tired of remasters.

In most cases the modding community has already done the work (for free).

Instead of new IP, we get remasters jacked up in price and often originals removed (artificial inflation).

Not enjoying this trend.
What can you say but it's easy money?

idbeholdME: Haven't tested the GOG version yet, but I assume it works out of the box without the need to fiddle with it like the CD version?
I tested the GOG version. It runs out of the box here and it is bundled with nGlide. The GOG version itself is the fourth option to run this game. DREAMM, The Force Engine (when 2.0 is released), dgVoodoo or nGlide are all good options to use for this game.

amok: Just had a look. I’d say the remaster is mostly aimed at people who never owned or played it before — so, mainly new buyers.
Console buyers especially. For instance, there are a lot of console owners who only knew Bioshock who just got to experience System Shock 2 for the first time because of the Night Dive enhanced edition.
Hope the cutscenes get redone in widescreen too. That would be great!

Anyway, I am happy, that NightDive is doing these remasters.

Same here.

But nostalgia milking is easy money, as proven by many, many studios at this point. In general, people are obviously into it and don't mind paying for the same thing over and over again, which is enough for the industry to follow that trend.

Not to mention much less expensive to make too. Selling a new game is hard, risky and unsure. So much so that even games not that old are getting remasters now rather than new entries/new IPs. What the market likes is certainty, and if possible, as cheap as possible certainty. Which is exactly nostalgia milking.

I fear the trend will last for a pretty long time, if it ever goes away at all.

SENSHOCK: Why would it be?
if they gave you every game they remastered for free they wouldn't be in business.

KainXVIII: They literally gave me free versions of remastered Doom 1+2 and Heretic+Hexen, but i guess its just MS/Bethesda is not that stingy as Disney.
Hmmm is it Disney or NightDive? I'm not so sure.

With Killing Time you didn't get the remaster for free.
I remember with Blade Runner it was 50% off if you owned the original.
And what do you mean when you say literally? Hexen and Doom were free?

NightDives MO is to remaster old games. it doesn't make any sense, if they give them away for free, even if you own the originals.

I mean that ND gave away Heretic, Doom and Quake remasters for free if you own original versions, so perhaps it makes sense for them (but only sometimes it seems)
Outlaws deserves a sequel, not a remaster !

"Where are you, Marshall ?"
I really liked all Nightdive Studios remasters so far. The Dark Forces remaster was really nice, also the option to switch between old and updated textures while playing and so on. While playing Dark Forces I already wished for a remaster of Outlaws, so I'm glad it's coming.
There are a lot of complaints and "the community already did it better for free" rants. I like how they manage to keep the "feel" of the original game. It's subtle things like the controls or colors. I mostly noticed this with the Doom remaster. I never stopped playing Doom and used a lot of source ports. I was really surprised to get such a throwback feeling from their remaster!
And to me this is what counts the most. Playing one of their remasters feels like how I remember playing the original. Sometimes more than playing the original itself on a modern setup (due to resolution, no longer having a CRT screen and so on) or a modern source port (better visuals, sometimes new effects or controls that the original never had, but it does not feel the same).

First the unexpected Hexen/Heretic remaster, and now this.

I wonder what they're going to do next? Brigand: Oaxaca?
Well this is completely unexpected. The memories are strong with this one and I still have my big box copy with the extra missions and soundtrack. Just preordered, and thanks for the nice surprise!
high rated
Not gonna pre-order this.

To be honest, I'm very excited for an Outlaws remaster, possibly the most excited I've ever been for a remaster, as I adored this game. Still have my big box (complete with Handful Of Missions) and my old Pentium 133 w/ VooDoo 1 to run it. I also already own it on GOG of course.

But come on, not even a discount for prior owners? Makes me question whether I even need to buy it on sale, what with the Force Engine version as an option soon.

I don't know who is setting the price, but whoever it is, please think about it:
Does greed really need to drive every decision?
Do right by your game's fans and do the right thing here, and I'll buy it at a reasonable price.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing, but it has limits.

Where are you, Marshall?

The original work well in Wine on Linux though.

For once I gotta say overpriced as can be , I usually don't say such things I don't think I even said it on Dark forces remaster but could be wrong there. Still atleast to me that one didn't age aswell as this game . Still so long as the old version is iether seperate or bundled with the new one .. I won't raise much a fuss. But will wait for the peice to be reasonable on sale to get
Great to see this coming here, a little too expensive for me at the moment, so onto the wishlist it goes for now. Will definitely be picking it up in a future sale, but in the meantime I’m going to play the classic version! Thanks Nightdive and GOG!
