Strijkbout: Okay.... I have to pay $3 or share to sign a petition...WTF?
With schemes like this I'm really starting to question the OP's motives.
You don't have to pay anything to sign the petition. You're telling everyone that they have to and that my intentions might not be genuine, then calling this a "scheme". Yeah, you're a troll who's upset that something's trying to be done about your disgusting behavior. Go away.
Time4Tea: I sympathize with the OP's sentiments that a system where forum users can downvote each other is open to abuse. However, why not just use the wishlist for this, rather than Change.org (where people have to give their names, e-mail addresses, zip codes, etc.)?
(I'd be more inclined to upvote a wishlist request than a Change.org petition)
That's been tried in the past, and GOG completely ignored it. They've also completely ignored it when they've been contacted directly by individual users.
MarkoH01: While I do completely agree with what have been said in the OP I don't think a petition would lead to another result than GOG's own wishlist. GOG is aware of the problem. They told us in 2017 and they told so again and again in the forum over time. My guess is that the forum is so old that nobody or just a few even still now how to tend it so even a seemingly simple thing like "turn off reputation function" might be problematic (and I doubt that they can even see who downvoted or upvoted - normally there is no reason to log such things). The fact that they did not even manage to fix things in this forum that are broken since months (might already been years - lost track) is even more telling. So GOG would have to replace the whole forum and this is time and workload GOG obviously don't think is worth investing.
But sure, I vote since it cannot hurt but my hopes that this will change a thing is extremely slim.
You're probably right, but if nobody tries to enact change, it's certain that nothing will change. It's baffling that a company would create a rule in their terms of service and then flat-out refuse to enforce it. Did they know for a fact that they would be unable to enforce it when they wrote it? That would be even more baffling.
If you disagree that the terms of service rule against abusing the rep system should be enforced, you're undoubtedly a troll who wants to be able to continue to abuse the rep system, and therefore you need to leave the forum. Nobody wants you here. It's also a violation of GOG's terms of service to use multiple accounts to interact with the forum. By doing this, you're violating yet another of the rules in their terms of service.
toxicTom: And now the thread has become the example of what finkleroy was talking about. All post (but the OP with probably enough plusses) in the red. Someone with an army of alt-accounts on a rampage.
GOG really needs to address this. While I don't care about Rep that much, it's a frustrating experience for many users, and GOG unable or unwilling to do something about it is unprofessional and doesn't do good to GOG's "rep".
Exactly. All the TOS-violating trolls violate the TOS constantly all over the forum, and when someone tries to stop them, they do it again. This thread is a perfect example of why GOG needs to start enforcing their terms of service and remove or revamp the rep system.
MarkoH01: Just upvoted ever single post in this thread as counter measure ....
Same here.
Time4Tea: Yeah, my poor, fledgling rep seems to be getting bombed as well. Oh well ... there go my shiny internet points ... /shrug
So, what are the consequences of having a negative rep? Does it actually matter?
It matters. If you have negative rep, you can't start a new thread or post a link unless the link has been quoted, like this:
