mwnn: All of those are fine choices.

Invisible War was particularly disappointing given how good Deus Ex was/is.
I don't know how they managed to make a game where the design was inferior in every way to it's predecessor. Ugh; those horribly small maps as well. All they had to do was clone the first game to make lots of $$$$
It was made with the Xbox in mind which limited the scope of the game.

For the record, I freaking love Monkey Island 3. So boo to all of you who named it!
For me the worst game sequel i have played are

Fallout 4. I know some think 3 is terrible but i liked the fact it was the first Fallout game to show you the wasteland in 3d. Fallout 4 was just crap in story and rpg mechanics.

Dragon Age 2. WTF happened with that one. First game was enjoyable third was fun too but 2 was like an expansion pack not a full game.

NExt another new one Mass Effect Andromida which i am playing but this is first Mass Effect game i am really struggling to play i am bored. Nice planetary graphics shame thats the only thing i can think of good. Crap story, characters and gameplay is dull.

Going on the Basis the a sequal should improve almost all aspects of the game then Mass Effect 2 has plenty of changes I didn't like compared to Mass Effect 1 and then Mass Effect 3 had even more changes I did'n't like compared to the previous 2 even though both Mass Effect 2 & 3 were great games.

F.E.A.R 2 wasn't anywhere near as good as the orignial F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R 3 was even worse!

onarliog: Now you're trying to pick a fight!

...anyways... Came to add the disappointment that is Blood 2.
No fight picking. I know for a lot of people FF VII was their first FF and/or RPG.
Mass Effect 2. I just hate the direction they took with it, I wanted something similar to the first game.

Fallout 3, a Fallout game in first person ? Didn't think I would like it, ... and I was right.

Forza 4-6, terrible AI. The one time Turn10 took inspiration from PC sims they got the AI just right, with Forza 3.

Midtown Madness 2
I remember being pretty disappointed by "The Settlers III" when it was released, but I haven't played it in ages. In fact I haven't played any Settlers title besides the immortal II and its remake.

Also, "Beyond Divinity" is pretty awful in comparison to "Divine Divinity", which is an awesome game except for the very end. Well, actually it's pretty awful on its own.

Gothic 3. Yes, even with all the Community Patches. I'm just glad I never played it in its original state.

MajicMan: Wow.

I too much prefer the original Witcher, but did you find the second to be such a disappointment because you found the first to be so great or did you find a lot of things with it you didn't like?
both. I think the witcher 1 is an awesome game and I think the sequel is not good.
Witcher 2. as a game it's not so bad, as sequel...
I loved the first game. despite its obvious flaws, it was great experience. it has interesting story that didn't included world salvation (until the last chapter =|), unusual controls and battle mechanics, nice inventory system, all of which and many more made it so unique in details.
but unfortunately the second one has almost nothing in common with it, including story and character motivation. in the very beginning I was already wondering why in the burned world of banana-flavoured slimy ooze Geralt of bloody Rivia, neutral for lifestyle monster-hunter-for-hire-who-usually-do-not-kill-sentient-beings became flippin' royal bodyguard? and it was just the first impression. then it was slasher without group attacks against outnumbering enemies, then QTE appeared, then alchemy became awfully useless...
it's not a bad game, by the way, it has good sides. but it's definitely most disappointing sequel I've ever played.
For me, Duke Nukem Forever, Bioshock 2, Deus Ex 2, etc. might not have lived up to expectations but were good games on their own and worth playing. When I read the title, the only thing that came to mind...

dtgreene: Actraiser 2.
Granted, the game did have exceptional graphics and audio, possibly better than the original - as dtgreene explained, they removed the simulation elements, but more than that, they changed the action gameplay as well, giving the player an awkward combination of a double jump and wing-glide, that felt awkward and added a learning curve to the controls that I personally never got used to. It left the game feeling less polished, and simply not as good as the original.

You nailed it. I think the combat system in The Witcher is amazing, even if a lot of people could never get used to it, and I hate QTEs.

But I didn't find the Witcher 2 horrible, in fact I think it is very good.

On the other hand, PoP Warrior Within is just a POS all the way through and is actually broken. Literally broken where you can't get past the second stage if you draw out the enemy character too early. After Sands of Time, PoPWW was an epic fail.
Master of Orion 3: Quicksilver gutted the MOO spirit.
Doom 3:
While fun with online coop, was just not that great. I felt it tried too much for horror vibes. It left me feeling left out with no subtitles/captions for voice emails in single player campaign. There was the caption mod for doom3, but later patches screwed it up. Last time I tried w/o patching, Doom3 just didn't like it. I just gave up Doom 3 after that.

Dragon Age 2, easily. Probably my own fault for choosing to ignore the signs. That and the ridiculous DLC shenanigans they pulled with ME3 (ended up boycotting that) turned me off of BioWare for good.
