Jade Cocoon 2. The first one was a lot of fun and had a nice story, the 2nd one ruined everything. Childish new main character that's just a fanboy of previous MC. Also the monster merging staple was completely taken out as well. Disgusting.
Can a game make this list because I never got to play it? :P
Can I say Monkey 4?

While Monkey 3 was definitely a step down, Monkey 4 was a plunge off a cliff.

Hickory: Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age Inquisition
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3 (only because of Kai Leng, the Invulnerable Prancing Swordsman(™) and "that ending")
Mass Effect Andromeda (what a horrendous mess!)

There's more, but there always is.

krakataul: Ok, so, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me five times...!? ;) :)
No. I'm not going to judge a game -- I do *not* read reviews -- until I've played it. That goes for any game from any publisher, even those with bad rep.
From the top of my head I'll say Final Fantasy X-2 and Escape from Monkey Island.
For me, ME 3 was very disappointing as compared the first two games. It also has the worst ending in the series.

Doc0075: Fallout 4.
I loved Fallout 3 and NV and couldn't wait for the sequel. The game just feels soulless to me. It is just go here, kill them. Go there, kill them. The quests and locations needed more variety and love put in to them (there were a few good ones).
I don't hate the game but it is a bit meh.
The game feels soulless to a lot of people. Instead of unique vaults... we got linear shooting galleries that make Skyrims dungeons look complex. Instead of meaningful questlines/factions we got tons of settlement filler content (that wasn't even properly fleshed out with the DLCs). Instead of an open plot... we got railroaded along for much of the game.

Some of the mechanical additions were good, and some of the changes (power armor) were epic... but beyond that there's nothing "below the surface". It made Skyrim look deep and expansive.
Super Smash Bros 4

Man such wasted potential. Even more than Fallout 3.

This, I wanted to like MI4 so much, I still like some moments of it. But you know what? I can forgive them, there were factors that lead to why MI4 was like that. I can understand, its sad but I can.

Dreamfall Chapters.

The Longest Journey was the game that got me into adventure games, and that was back in 2012 without any nostalgia or anything. It quickly became one of my all-time favorite games of any genre. Dreamfall was okay, though unfinished and not remotely as good as the original. While recognizing that some people like Chapters for reasons entirely beyond my capacity to understand, I found it to be appallingly charmless, poorly paced, poorly written, poorly optimized, and a chore to play. It takes itself far too seriously and includes numerous distractions that ultimately serve no purpose outside of padding itself. More questions are raised than are answered, and the few that are answered are steeped in a nonsensical mix of contrived technobabble and convenient plot magic. Characters know things from previous games they weren't present for and had no way of finding out about, and things that were said to have already happened have to be re-accomplished because the developers apparently forgot about them. The whole thing is just a profoundly insulting experience. I would have genuinely enjoyed the game more if it had crashed every time I tried to start it.
Mass Effect 3, by far. I've replayed the first and second games multiple times, but I have so far not touched ME3 since I played through the Extended Cut DLC that BioWare was forced to release due to the backlash that the ending sparked. And sadly that DLC didn't really fix any of the major issues the ending had.

Another game is actually also a BioWare title (where anyone surprised...?) and is, as most can probably guess, Dragon Age 2. I am still disappointed in that game and the massive quality degradation from Dragon Age: Origins (which I've replayed 5 times or something like that).

I haven't played through Mass Effect: Andromeda yet but... Eh, let's wait until a bunch more patches is released for it.

legopig: Divinity: Original Sin (should have been real times combat not god awful turn based badly implemented)
avatar
Leroux: Heh, I thought the combat was the only thing that's fun and original about it. I'd have preferred if they had cut down on the writing instead.

But I wouldn't really call it a sequel to the former Divinity games any more than I would call Divinity: Dragon Commander a sequel. At least they didn't name it Divinity 3: Original Sin. The gap from Divine Divinity to Divinity 2 was much bigger (even though I kind of liked both of these for what they are).
I really enjoyed Divinity 2. sort of enjoyed OS for a while. I git as far as the mines/jail where you had to stealth. before calling it a day. I wouldn't call it a bad game, just disappointing to me. Would have much preferred combat like Pillars of Eternity.

Yeah, that section is quite terrible.

tinyE: Commandos 3
I thought Commandos 2 was already pretty lame tbh, much too easy, didn't reach the greatness of the first game.
Never played Commandos 3 apart from the demo.

morolf: Command and Conquer: Tiberan sun. Totally killed any interest I had in the C&C franchise.

Crosmando: How is it humanly possible for someone to have such shit taste?
I've got excellent taste. Tiberian sun was a deeply mediocre game, badly over-hyped before release.

Heresy! I absolutely loved Tiberian Sun for the wall-mounted turrets and gates (I'm a major fan of base building). Now Tiberian Twilight, however, was and still is total shit.
