vv221: One of our contributors is working on something that sounds similar: build.it

This is a Python wrapper that:
- scans your collection of game installers
- uses ./play.it to generate .deb packages for the supported ones
- generates a full APT repository from the generated packages, allowing to to install them from any computer having access to this repository
Oooh very nice!

Gede: I imagine that most game updates do not break the ./play.it scripts.

But my point is: I think that the MD5 and name check is nice to provide a safeguard, but should be easy for the user to skip them if desired (perhaps it is since the last time I tried). Unless there is some data proves me wrong, and I wish some was collected for or against this idea.
In the case of Fallout Tactics the script still worked fine but I've never looked at any others. There is a switch to skip the MD5 check.

Thank you for letting me know. That is neat.
That’s a new low, false copyright claims are used to try taking down ./play.it: https://forge.dotslashplay.it/-/snippets/27

ZFR: It's like talking to bots...
Most of it has probably actually been spent wasting my time with bots.
Getting a contact with a human has not been easy. And even after that, getting him to actually look at the claim and admit it is unfounded has been even harder.

The good news is that they finally admitted that the claim was bogus. We are no longer threatened by a take down "for now". Actually, "for now" are the exact words used by my hosting provider. This is not making me happy at all, seeing their lack of professionalism with this false copyright infringement notice.

Anyway, I decided to no longer support any Cyan World, Inc. game with ./play.it: Cyan World, Inc. threatens Free Software developers with false copyright claims

I might later share the full e-mail discussions, with all identifying information removed.
That's appalling.

It's a pity that the line
"I state UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY that:"
isn't enforced. It would stop a lot of this crap.

Yuck, that is utterly disgusting. Damn bots ruining the honest life on the internet. It's almost like a Kafka novel. Impossible to talk to anybody.
Fresh news: Hannah Gamiel, Development Director at Cyan, sent us an e-mail clearing up the misunderstanding and promising us that they will ensure the DMCA claim is going to be reversed as soon as possible. This is the first e-mail that read like a real human is talking to us since the start of this mad week, and a big relief for us.

I will post a detailed post-mortem of this full issue soon, but here are a couple highlights already:
- Thanks to all involved in helping our issues reaching Cyan, be it through Twitter or any other mean
- Thanks to Hannah Gamiel for actually taking us seriously and being the first one not treating us as "guilty until proven innocent"
- Of course, since we’ve gotten apologies that sound sincere the ban on Cyan games is lifted from ./play.it, and I will restore support for Myst: Masterpiece Edition and RealMyst: Masterpiece Edition soon
- If you are a DMCA corporate drone and actually reading this, remember that you are threatening real humans with your claims, not faceless entities
./play.it new 2.13 version got released on the 7th of May 2021, a bit less than one year after the previous 2.12 we already announced on this blog: ./play.it 2.12: API, GUI and video games

New features of this release are detailed below, then we will talk about decisions we took concerning ./play.it Web presence, and celebrate our first serious accusation of copyright violation!

Since it is such a pain to post well-structured content on GOG.com forums, you will have to go to our blog to read the details about this new release: ./play.it 2.13: Website, copyright and video games
Your comments are of course welcome right here, on this forum ;)
