So, I don't know that this needs a separate thread, but I thought a "call to action" vs. a general "Homeworld" discussion might be a good thing.

Most of you probably know by now that Gearbox bought the rights to Homeworld. I've read mixed reactions to this on the GOG forums - some people think that this is bad as Gearbox will only release on Steam, others think it could be good because at least somebody will do /something/ with it. (Personally I think it's a Valve-Gearbox conspiracy, but I shan't elaborate further because otherwise Gabe Newell's drones will shoot me.)

Homeworld is high up on the GOG wishlist, and I believe one of the Gearbox employees mentioned putting it out on "all the major digital distribution platforms" which hopefully already includes GOG. In any case, if you want to voice support for a GOG release, here are some links to contact Gearbox (at least in an "unofficial capacity"):

Gearbox Facebook page (I think one can only comment on an official GB post): https://www.facebook.com/GearboxSoftware?fref=ts

Gearbox Twitter: https://twitter.com/GearboxSoftware

"Please put HW 1 & 2 on GOG, at least" GB forum thread: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=273144

Please post other ways to let them know, too.
One bump, then I will let this go.
Another bump, and the link from the wishlist on gog: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/homeworld
I would love to see Homeworld 1 & 2 on GOG!

Although I'd like to play a Homeworld 3, I'm not ecstatic to see GB got the license. I haven't really enjoyed any of their games, not even Bordelands 1 - fine concept but very repeating, un-challenging and with a disappointing ending.
These clowns got the rights, oh my...

Another good idea in need of support is the fixing of the license mess of the HW1 open source release by relic. A liberal relicensing under a GPL/CC/public domain is now possible and would be helpful. Thread over at gearbox: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=273190

Maybe also of interest, but unrealistic: the request to cooperate or hand the IP over to Blackbird Interactive, a studio formed by the core of the Homeworld developers (http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=273189)

(PS: in general, GOG should play an active part in the source code "liberation" of old classic games... see this wish obtain source code for games where possible. "Preservation of Classics by Source Code Liberation" could be a fifth quality for GOG which would sharpen the Digital Distributor profile against Steam)

That's a very good idea! Source code is no good if you're not allowed to use it.

My "one bump".
If we keep BUMPing on the door, we might get an answer :-)
THQ too much resisted DRM-free revolution. Nordic OK with it lots of THQ's back catalog. I hope Gearbox hears community.
As far as getting some sort of remastered classic Homeworld (there were three, if I recall correctly: Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm, and Homeworld 2), even if not on GOG, I don't really see much in the way of it. I think the community will get what it deserves. But how the IP will go from here, now that's something we can be legitimately worried about.

The Nordic Games THQ IP discussion goes on here:

Official response: "Of course thats something we will want to look at but in the end this depends on the GOG team what they want. For example in the past a few JoWooD games were rejected by them. "
