What's the difference between Starsiege and Starsiege: Tribes
avatar
Rincewind81: Earthsiege is part of Tribes? This is new to me. Loved both games.
Starsiege is Earthsiege 3. Starsiege: Tribes, aka, Tribes 1 is a spin-off of the series.

From what I read back in the day I was playing Tribes: Vengeance, even Hunter Hunted is part of the series. And that is a game that has abso-fuckin-lutely nothing to do with Starsiege or Tribes.

Starsiege is Earthsiege 3, basically a mech simulator game. Starsiege: Tribes is a spin-off.

Holy crap :O Downloading them all

Thanks for sharing :D
I don't see Metaltech: Battledrome and Starsiege.
Did they fix Earthsiege 2 for modern systems? Because my copy is a pain to get it working. :^(

No, the mech games were part of the Metaltech series but when multiplayer FPS's were popular they moved from Starsiege to Tribes and they basically took the road to die a very slow death.

Thanx. I bought Starsiege in 2006 at a shop where I was staying, it was in their bargain bin. They came with only their jewel case, as the owner got them when He bought a computer shop in the country shop.

Technically it's still brand new as I've yet to play it :p
They could have released them here for 5-10$, but ok XD
(all series info on MG)

Oh cool, iso images.

Starsiege is in the same download as Tribes

EDIT: actually, that download appears to only contain Starsiege - Starsiege: Tribes is missing

avatar
phaolo: EDIT: wait, are they really for PS2? O_o
Only Tribes: Aerial Assault

Wait, only Earth Siege games and Vengeance have a single player mode?! :O
Do you know if they're good?

Thought Tribes: Vengeance was pretty good when I played it - Vengeance was the first Tribes game I played because it had singleplayer (didn't have internet access at the time, or when the earlier games were released).

Haven't played Metaltech: Earthsiege, but Earthsiege 2 and Starsiege were pretty good.
Out of those two, Starsiege is probably easier to get running, and likely easier to play as well.

Being a DOS game, Earthsiege is pretty easy to get running on modern PCs through DOSBox.
Kudos to HiRez, but I'd still rather have them here (and also the missing Cyberstorm 1 an 2), even if I had to pay for them. Having GOG sort out the compatibilty issues and throw in some nice extras (Starsiege manual was especially nice with lots of lore and background information. Nice music too) would easily be worth it.
GOG needs to fix em and then put em up in here for free!

sometimes I wonder how many more games might go the tribes way without gog and its revolution. it might end up being disjointed, and therefore prone to interference and abuse. but still, there are organized user-built communities for lots of things. information resources archival and correlation could be handled by a community. it's hard to say what way it could go.
